Let's get something done this season instead of talking about dumb ideas and using this thread as a post pad. Here's what I'd like to see discussed:
1. Draft
- I want to implement something that would be more like real life when players refuse to sign with a team. So this is how it would work in my mind. Let's say each year we have 5 players that, in real life, didn't sign the first time they were drafted. To make this easier I'll use real players from the '08 draft: Aaron Crow, Gerrit Cole, Jason Kipnis, Anthony Rendon, and Yan Gomes. These 5 players did NOT sign with the team that drafted them in 2008, their first draft. So in here I would I would assign a percentage likelihood that the player would sign or not sign, depending on where they were drafted. So Crow and Cole were in the 1st round so I'd give them a 25% chance of signing. Kipnis was in the 4th round so maybe like 50%. Rendon and Gomes were 27 and 39, so in reality the lower rounds are kind of like the 1st round and guys don't sign so they can be drafted higher the next year, so maybe like 35%. We would work them into the draft file, making them really good to studs. Right before the draft I put each player to a RNG to see if he stays in the draft. And this is where my dilemma occurs: do I take the player out before the draft or keep him in, let someone draft him, then tell them after the draft he didn't sign, and give a compensation pick for the next draft?
2. Exports
- I could be inclined to give $2M for 100% exports and then work down from there.
3. Relievers to Starters
- I'd like to eliminate these. Makes it harder to make drafts and it's unrealistic.
EDIT: Phasing out will start AFTER this draft. Anyone drafted in the 2007 draft or earlier will be eligible for conversion up to and inlcuding spring training '09. anyone drafted in 2008 or later will not be eligible.
4. Contraction
- It's happening if we don't fill these two teams by Opening Day '07. It would happen in the offseason between the 2007 season and the 2008 season. Simplest solution would just to put everyone who is on those teams into FA and let it sort itself out. I need to keep each league at an even number so realignment would be pretty simple: Milwaukee moves to AL Central. That way each league has a 4 team division.
EDIT: Even with Marty signing up I'm still full steam ahead with this. No reason to believe Marty will stick around (sorry buddy, but it's true!). We should brainstorm ideas on what to do with the players on each team.
5. PD Reversals
- This is also happening. Here's how it would lay out. Each players gets 2 PD reversals, the first which must be used either when they are 21 or younger, OR during their rookie season regardless of age, whichever comes later. So another way to look at it: 21 or younger - two reversals: a regular PD reversal and one that needs to be used before they turn 22; rookies 22 or older - two reversals: a regular PD reversal and one that needs to be used during their rookie season or they lose it. Cost of the 1st PD reversal would be what's on the PD reversal page right now and the 2nd PD reversal would just be double what you see.
5. PD Reversals
- After further clarification it looks like we'll be going a different direction with PD reversals. Here's how they'll work. No first year player (year after they are drafted) can receive a negative OR positive PD. They can also not be camped (current rule). After their first season in the league, they fall under the old rules of one PD reversal per career. No one will be looking out for your negative PDs. YOU need to post them in your spend thread to reverse, and you'll have one sim to do so, just like regular PD reversals. Positive PDs are a different story. We'll have a watch dog for that. This watch dog will not be in charge of your negative PDs.
I'm sure I'm forgetting something so sound off here. Please please please keep it to ideas. Nothing gets done if I have to sift through 25 pages of meaningless conversation.
