The Atlanta Braves have struggled for the majority of the last 7 seasons under the helm of GM Heatflash, sporting an over .500 record in only 2 seasons under his management. The rest of the years have been spent rebuilding and acquiring assets for the future. Many Atlanta fans have turned their back on the once promising Braves. Fans were seen burning jerseys after last season where the Braves lost 116 games, their 2nd straight season of over 100 losses.
This has led to Braves fans to question the true intention of the team. Are they in it for a profit or are they in it to win championships?
To show the determination to win the Braves have announced they are giving Braves Stadium (forgot the name of my park lol) a one hundred million dollar renovation to be ready for the 2016 season. Along with the the renovation, GM Heatflash has promised to field a competitive team by the year 2017. This
News is sure to have Braves fans buzzing!
The Braves are looking forward to a number of young players coming up through their system in the next season. Rumors also have it top starting pitching prospects Starting Pitcher Danny Hultzen and Starting pitcher Gerit Cole are gonna be on the opening day rotation if they show they are ready in spring training. The sky is the limit for Hultzen, as he has been rumored to be a strikeout pitcher that keeps the ball in the ballpark and also out of play. One area he hasn't found himself in just yet is his control as he struggles with walks. Gerit Cole (SP, AAA) is projected to be a great number 2 or 3 pitcher. Although some have been building up
His buzz saying he is ace material, but
Many scouts suggest otherwise. They will join a rotation that struggled heavily last year, posting an astonishing and disgusting (not in the good way either) earned run average (ERA) of over 6.00!! That ranked 27th in the league. Some also suspect the Braves to be major players in this years free agent market, targeting pitchers. Veteran leadership added to a string of young phenols coming up from the minor leagues would be a huge boost for the Braves. While not promising an over .500 season for the year 2015, the Braves are promising more winds and closer games.
In others news, the Braves recently selected 18 year old phenom Right Fielder James Demery with the 2nd overall selection in the draft. James Demery is said to be in the
Majors by opening day! Even though GM Heatflash may hold him back for the first month or 2 to have him adjust to the everyday life of Major League Baseball in the BBSBL. Scouts say he has inhumane power and one of the best eyes they have ever seen. Along with this, he is also monster on the basepaths, beig a threat to steal over 60 from day 1 in the league. Scouts see many 30/60 seasons from this young outfielder.
Speaking of outfielders, we recently caught up to Braves young Center fielder Brandon Nimmo who is determined to make this his breakout year. He looks like he has put on a good 25 pounds of muscle over the offseason and in batting practice was launching balls over the wall. Nimmo hopes to improve on a season where he struggled to put the ball in play often and hit not too far over the Mendoza line. If Nimmo and James Demery can provide a boost this year they will help fellow young guns lefty SS Raimel Tapia, 2B Conor Gillapsie, and switch hitting C Yasmani Grandal.
Bleacher Report journalist Shale Briskin also reported that the Braves could be in the market for an elite contact hitter. GM Heatflash is looking for a player who can hit over .320 this upcoming season. Even though the Braves have an underrated prospect in the minors who, if the Braves stay patient, could be the hitter they are looking for. While not providing much pop, Chance is said to be able to hit just about any pitch thrown at him for a single.
While many fans will still be skeptical of the Braves ways, this stadium renovation ocean only show the Braves are trying to win, and will do what it takes to win. In the wake of this news many fans have rushed to buy season tickets before they go up in 2016 with the new stadium features. The future is looking bright in Atlanta and fans better be excited.
