Dodger Stadium, home of the depressed batting average, long fly ball outs, and great catches in the gap to rob hopeful hitters of doubles and triples, is beefing things up with park adjustments. In past seasons hitting prospects have petered out in LA, partly because of the chilling effect the stadium has on run production. Over the years, batters have hit 21% fewer doubles and 39% fewer triples than normal for BBSBL. Batting averages have been down approximately 7%, turning a .300 hitter into a .279 hitter. Homers have been 6% below normal, too.
Hoping to generate more runs scored, more games won and more butts in the seats, LA’s General Manager will downsize the park to bring it in line with BBSBL normal ratings so players can perform up to their expectations.
Current dimensions in Dodger Stadium are:
LFL 330ft LF 360ft LCF 375ft CF 400ft RCF 375ft RF 360ft RFL 330ft
New dimensions will be:
LFL 320ft LF 365ft LCF 385ft CF 400ft RCF 385ft RF 365ft RFL 320ft
The Park Effects in today’s Dodger Stadium are:
2B 79 3B 61 AVG RHB 93 HR RHB 95 AVG LHB 90 HR LHB 94
New Park Effects will be:
2B 95 3B 80 AVG RHB 100 HR RHB 100 AVG LHB 100 HR LHB 100
Not a big change, but it may shake things up a little. Maybe more changes will come in the seasons to follow.
