So yea, I wanted to get your guys' opinion on something. I am considering cutting the cord (not from my mommy, but from cable TV). Like anyone else, I salivate at the idea of saving money each month. I am tired of paying more for TV that I dont even watch than buying food each month.
I have since given up the digital premium or whatever that crap is and went to economy (no sports, only local and a few dozen cable channels) which is still over $100 a month, down from $130 a month, but could have been as high as $175 a month as I saw some of my friends pay. I am considering getting rid of the cable altogether and just have the internet.
I spoke to the wife and she says she watches Food Network, CNN but mostly network channels and PBS (with lil bebe). I only watch network channels at best. I'm not into the shows on HBO that I hear about.
The question is what is a good combination for getting the TV I need? I did some quick searching and it seems like the following is a decent setup:
* Internet-only Plan from provider ($60/mo)
* Purchase a HD Antenna (like at Walmart, $10 total; FCC shows I have decent coverage to obtain CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, PBS over the air, in HD
* Purchase a ROKU ($50 total)
* Sign up for Netflix and Hulu PLUS ($8/mo + $8/mo)
So I would still get live (network) tv + older episodes (via Hulu) + some movies (netflix). Or do I even need Netflix?
My concern would be Food Network (don't see a Roku channel) unless I missed it on Hulu...
Thoughts? Am I oversimplifying anything? Missing something?
