The Franchise Player Rule aka The Derek Jeter Rule
Each team will be allowed to dub one of their players a "franchise player."
Limitations on selecting player:
- Has to be 25 years old or younger
- Has to be on original contract
- Cannot be a prospect. Has to have a major league contract.
- Cannot switch players until current franchise player is either traded, rejected in FA, turns 35 years old, or receives career ending injury
This player will have the following benefits:
- No effects from PDs; nothing up and nothing down
- Can still use reward camps on them
- Fan loyalty cannot go down
Contractual Obligations
- The player will always resign with his team.
- After his original 6 years of team control you will have two options:
1. $15M x 10 yrs. It's kind of dumb to have this option, but I feel like it's a basic contract these days irl.
2. The average of the top 5 players at the same position (RF, CF, LF will all count as OF; 2B and SS will all count as MI; 1B and 3B will all count as CI), maximum of one $20M contract in the average. Years will be determined by the players loyalty: minimum loyalty will be 6 years, average loyalty will be 7 years, loyal loyalty will be 8 years. More than likely this will be the more expensive option so you don't have to commit for as many years.
- The owner has the option to decline the contract. Declining the contract will result in fan loyalty dropping two categories.
Drawbacks to having franchise player:
- If traded, fan loyalty drops two categories
- If declined in FA, fan loyalty drops two categories
- If fan loyalty is already at the lowest point, $5M will be deducted from in game bank
- If bank is below $5M, $5M will be deducted from boards bank
- No idea what would happen after that.
Talent ratings:
- Talents will lock in from starting age to 33 years old
- Starting at age 34, the lock comes off and talent decreases are free to happen. There will be no mandatory talent decreases.
Franchise players can be traded for each with no penalty.
