#2) New York Yankee SP: Takashi Saito
Highest paid player in the game at 20 mil per. Thus far the Yankees have lost a league low 14 games, and this guy, who is currently in the 2 spot, but is arguably the teams ace, has FOUR of those losses! One more winning streak with only one loss by Taka and he has 1/3 of the teams losses on his shoulders. 5-4 overall and giving up a HR per game with 64% quality starts, despite his solid 3.62 ERA, he is stealing more than half of that per year salary from the Steinbrenner clan. That and the fact that he didn't take the Yanks over the top last season, and he is well deserving of this spot.

Things change when you have one month left in a season and are headed towards the playoffs.
Like you said, he is only gonna get paid a portion of that salary for the rest of the year.
I wonder if Florida knows something.... like how cheap he might resign for?
Since when can the Yanks NOT afford a 20 mil player!
Honestly, I don't know why, aside from getting a pick or specs, you would move him at this point as you battle Balty for the WC spot.

Plus I don't want to pay him $20M next year.

Worth the financial hit to make sure the Orioles beat him for the last spot.

After thinking this through... I don't think I could resign him to make it worthwhile, no claim

Mehhhh not a fan of rescinding a claim. That'll be an offseason rule adjustment.
Claim awarded to Oakland. You have until next sim to trade or release him to Oakland, or pull him back. If intentions are not stated he will automatically be released to Oakland.

GABL does not allow pull backs of claims. Come on! Um yes they do. You just can't pull somebody back after they've on waivers twice in the same season... somebody get this guy a rule book.
