With this article, I factor in production, talent ratings, contract, and age for the true outcome of their value…I weigh talent ratings along with age more, and this could be a good guide to see who truly the best valuable AL OF on the market is. Here we go:
Top 15 AL OF
1. Oscar Taveras- BAL- Age 23- Well, Jah went from Jack Cust to Oscar Taveras…I think this player could turn into a better player than Cust was for the O’s. Oscar sports the B/A/B/B/B look with the ability to get to a B/A look for his stealing ability. He also has a plus arm, and hasn’t been reversed which could come into play if Jah ever considered trading him. Let’s be honest, Taveras is going to be with the Baltimore Orioles for the rest of his career, and he should be able to lead this team to a few playoff appearances in due time. Taveras has had a decent start to his career, and should only be a matter of time before he imposes his greatness on the league.
2. Desmond Jennings- FLA- Age 29- I had this guy gifted to me in the expansion prospects draft, and of course he gets an amazing PD to turn into the superstar he is right now. His number rating look is as follows: 8/8/6/10/9/5 with A/A and a .990 fielding % throughout the OF and A range. Yes, he’s a 5-tool player. Last year he put together a 40/40 season to showcase just that. Better yet, he scored over a run per game last season. He’s basically got all of his reversals left, and has been basically camped fully. This is the Marlins damn leadoff hitter, folks. Special talent.
3. Bryce Harper- ATL- Age 23- HF, I believe franchised him which was the right thing to do since he’s only got one reversal left. Harper will be an okay defender, but his bat could be devastating. He’ll have good plate discipline, and could whiff on occasion…but man, he should be a force down there in Atlanta. He’s young, and this is only his second season up in the big leagues. His rookie year left a lot to be desired, but he’ll only trend up as he continues to mature. Stud.
4. Matthew Roten- TOR- Age 26- He’s not entering his 4th season, and if I remember correctly…Game was deciding on if he should franchise this guy. For me, I’d say no. Just not worth it in my opinion. Still, His talent rating line of B/A/A/G/B/B is pretty dang good with the ability to swipe bases as well. He only has a couple of reversals left, and that seems to be a theme with this group of talent. He has been IRId twice, too. I’m interested to see if Game can screw this up, or maximize this kid’s talent.
5. Yasiel Puig- MON- Age 25- Yes, his contract isn’t great right this moment, but that should all change once he starts to perform. I think it’s only a matter of time, but the start to his career has been pretty damn average thus far. He’s still young which is huge. He has all of his reversals remaining which also is nice…B/B/G/B/G look is really nice, and with the full amount of IRIs left as Kobe’s disposal…this guy should start putting it together.
6. Will Myers- PHI- Age 25- I’ve been after this guy for a little bit, but I’ve always liked his set of skills. He’ll be an extra base machine with the ability to draw some walks and not strike out. His defense is okay, and he has a plus arm which is always big. He should start putting it together, and has a few IRIs left if Temp uses them (I lold). He also has a few reversals left, and at this stage…Temp needs this guy to start performing soon.
7. Brandon Nimmo- ATL- Age 26- Another young Brave who is similar to Harper to some extent. He’s entering year four of his career, and he’s coming off a decent year. He’s another Brave talent that has talent, but needs to start performing for the team because HF is in win-mode. He’s been reversed twice, and has had his TIA used, but otherwise can still be camped. He’s off to a great start for the Braves, and we should see if this is his breakout season.
8. Terry Vogelsang- MON- Age 23- Kobe’s second player finds his way to [HASH]8 on the list. He’s only been TIAd which means he can be camped fully. He’s pretty developed at age 23, and had a promising rookie campaign. A lot to like here and Kobe has a lot more talent than people think. His team should be a threat soon.
9. Michael Brantley- BAL- Age 28- Hey, another Oriole! I tried getting him a few seasons back, and he looks to be a very good player. His sophomore year was fantastic, but dipped back down after that. I’m a firm believer in his abilities, and I think this is the year where he’ll start producing consistently good numbers for Jah. He hasn’t been reversed yet, and can still be IRId a few more times. He still has a couple more years on arbitration which makes him even more appealing.
10. Jimmy Ogata- PHI- Age 28- Another Phillies player makes the list, and he’s another solid hitter that should continue his success from the previous season. He drove in 100 runs last year, and that should only be a sign of things to come for this player. He has only been reversed once, and can be IRId fully. If Temp could be more active, he could really max out his young stable of talent.
11. Carlos Monzo- PITT- Age 30- I think this is a fair spot for Monzo who has been an absolute stud leadoff hitter for me. Last year was his best year to date, but even the previous two seasons weren’t too shabby. When he’s played full seasons, he has had at least 200+ hits, 30+ doubles, 110+ runs, and 70 steals. That’s what I call a proto-typical leadoff hitter. He’s been at the top for all four of his seasons, and he’s entering year five for us. He’s been reversed once which means he’s in good shape to stay at this level of production through his 30s. He’s basically all camped out. This is one of the more underrated players in the league.
12. Giancarlo Stanton- FLA- Age 26- He’s always been an interesting player, and I think where to exactly place him in these rankings is a tricky thing to do. He’s got very legit power, and will get his extra base hits. He will strikeout a ton, and not take many walks. My biggest thing with Stanton is what he’s making. He’s not worth that. Yes, he’s due for a new contract, but he’s probably going to command another high contract from the Marlins. Maybe he gives Ashes a discount, but I highly doubt that. He has a few reversals left, and only has one IRI left.
13. Christian Yelich- NYY- Age 24- If he can hit for a good average, then watch out. He will walk, and it perfectly suits his talents as he can steal with the best of them. Yelich is also a plus defender, and hasn’t been reversed in his career.
14. Lloyd Pettyjohn- MON- Age 25- Kobe’s entire outfield makes the list which is pretty impressive. The only gripe for me is his talent being “fair” in doubles, but I like him besides that. He has only been TIAd, and so that really makes him even more appealing to the league. He’s got solid range, and this is his rookie year which will be interesting to see how much he struggles in the early parts of the season.
15. Daniel Saldivar- PITT- Age 26- Saldivar is a pretty solid piece that I received from Shale in the deal with Collmenter. He’ll hit a good amount of home runs with a decent amount of doubles, and will have solid plate discipline which is what I value in this league. That’s why my teams have constantly led the league in BB:K ratio. Anyway, he’s been just reversed once, and can be IRIs fully. I can also increase his speed to make him a true threat on the base paths. I think this can be a solid player for us, and the scary thing is…he hits 8th for us.
Honorable Mentions: George Springer (MIN: Age 26), Hector Asuncion (MIN: Age 27), Matt Kemp (TAM: Age 31), Charlie Blackmon (NYY: Age 29), Joey Gallo (NYY: Age 22), Joshua Fuller (BOS: Age 26), and Matt Kemp (TAM: Age 31)
Top 5 AL OF Prospects
1. Maximilian Law- NYM- Age 18- The first overall pick in this year’s draft is the top prospect according to me for the AL. He has the potential to look like: G/B/B/G/B. He is obviously untouched with camps. With a cannon for an arm, he should be a big part of the Mets future.
2. Emery Woolum- TOR- Age 21- A prospect from last year’s draft class, he has the potential to get on base, and then create chaos from there. TIB his stealing ability and he’ll be a nasty leadoff hitter for Game in a few years. He also can play top notch defense out there in the field as well.
3. Victor Roache- TOR- Age 24- I didn’t see his name listed so I believe he’s completely untouched. Well, Game can improve this guy’s skill set and make him a very nice player. I’d probably TIA the doubles, but walks would be a fine option, too. He’s just about ready for the big leagues.
4. Albert Amora- PHI- Age 22- He’s another guy that I didn’t see listed which means he has all of his camps remaining as well. He can be TIAd to his walks which would make him have good talents across the board. With his exceptional defense at CF, this is a very enticing player to have on any team.
5. Hunter Renfroe- MIL- Age 24- I project him to be an OF, and not a catcher. He’s a tad under developed for his talents, but I believe he just got a good PD to put him in this spot. Still, he is virtually untouched besides a TIA being used.
Bash away, folks!
