With this article, I factor in production, talent ratings, contract, and age for the true outcome of their value…I weigh talent ratings along with age more, and this could be a good guide to see who truly the best valuable 1B on the market is. Here we go:
Top 10 1B
1. Paul Goldschmidt- CHI- Age 28- He is the complete package. He can hit, steal, and play exceptional defense. He has won a couple gold gloves, and is the reigning National League MVP. Look at how amazing his start is, too. He runs the base paths with such efficiency…last year was by far his best season, and only seems to be trending upwards for the young slugger. He’s been a part of two championship teams which shows you his ability to help his team win on the big stage. Goldie has been reversed a few times, but still has his entire IRIs available which should make him even scarier. His contract is due up, so I’m very interested to see what kind of contract he demands from Play. Another friggin Cub at the top.
2. Jose Abreu- PITT- Age 29- Last year, in his sophomore campaign, he put together his best season. He was a doubles machine with the ability to hit for a very good average. He’s a well rounded hitter, and is making a decent chunk of change though. He hasn’t been touched, and has everything at his disposal to improve upon. I’m debating whether to IRI him now or be patient. I’m leaning towards bumping his HRs up, and his hits potentially. He’s a huge part of the offense, and he hits fifth in our lineup which tells you how deep we are.
3. Jon Singleton- MIN- Age 24- He’s probably second if it wasn’t for his serious developmental issues. He’s been inching each season rating-wise because Styro called him up to franchise him…in other words, protecting him from taking another PD hit. He’s going to be a fabulous hitter once he gets there. My question is, when will he become just that? I don’t know, and I think that’s why I slide him at third. I remember debating an offer from Styro when we were talking about a deal surrounded with him and Harvey. I still love the player, but once he gets past age 25 or whatever…his trade stock drops a little just because you won’t be able to franchise him. I think Styro should trade him for a team that can franchise him, and then obviously franchise Bogaerts. Then again, Bogaerts is loyal so you know he’ll sign a good contract for you. Interesting decision for the Twins GM.
4. CJ Cron- MON- Age 26- He has only been TIAd, but besides that has been untouched. He now possesses a 13 number rating for his HR talent. If I did this article a day before, I’m not sure he would’ve been ranked number 4. Well, timing is everything and he is looking like a guy that has the capabilities to hit 40+ HRs each season. His only negative is his ability to draw walks, but that should be negated by the fact that he’s going to hit a ton of long balls.
5. Justin Smoak- ATL- Age 29- This dude is just a consistent run producing machine. You can chalk him up for about 45 2Bs, 25 HRs, and 90+ RBIs each season. He still in arbitration years which makes him even more attractive. He has been reversed, but still has a few left. Another bad thing is, he has been IRId quite a bit. This is still a mighty fine player that I’ve always liked to have on my ball team.
6. Miguel Cabrera- FLA- Age 32- The soon to be 33 year old is on his way to becoming the greatest hitter in BBSBL history. He’s already amassed over 1,000 extra base hits, and is holding a career 1.007 OPS. I’m not sure we will ever see a run like there was in 2011-2013…just incredibly special. I really wasn’t sure where to put the best hitter we’ve ever seen, but I think this spot is alright. He’s well on his way to 3,000 hits and should get to 600+ HRs. I don’t think we’ll ever see this kind of production again…maybe Trout or Bogaerts can pull it off with great development. This player has been a part of five championships, and has won the MVP a staggering seven times. The GOAT.
7. Joey Votto- PITT- Age 32- Yes, he’s up there, but he’s just an absolute stud who has an all round game. He was arguably the second best hitter in the AL last season, and he was a huge reason we won a lot of games in the second half once we acquired him. He is an absolute hit machine with gap power, and the ability to hit 25+ HRs as well. One of the true best hitters currently in the game.
8. Jacob Klos- NYY- Age 29- This dude just produces. He even hit in shitty San Fran. I think he could have an awesome year with the Yankees, and I give Erbes props on jumping on his talents. He can still be IRId a few more times, and still has all of his reversals left which is always a good thing. The contract is a bargain, too. I think he’s in line for a career year with Jeffrey’s team.
9. Freddie Freeman- TEX- Age 26- I wanted to get him from Erbes, but I was too late…and so he went off to lovely Texas. Texas has a pair of first baseman who are very talented. He has been IRId completely so that does take away from his value a tad, but does have all of his reversals left which is nice. He’ll be a hit machine with gap power to show for it.
10. Tony Sanchez- TEX- Age 27- Another Texas guy that kind of came out of nowhere. He is pretty dang solid, and has mostly all of his camps available besides his TIA…he just used one reversal, too. He’s making chump change right now, and he’ll be a solid pro in this league. I think if Pineda is active…he has a chance to do some things with this Texas franchise.
Honorable Mentions: Yasmany Tomas (SF: Age 25), Matt Adams (STL: Age 27), Prince Fielder (CHI: Age 31), and Ian Stewart (TOR: Age 32)
Top 3 MLB 1B Prospects
1. Dominic Smith- CLE – Age 20- Damn, this kid looks really good. G/G/B/G/B is fun, and he’s pretty well developed at this stage. He has only been reversed once so he’s in okay shape.
2. Matt Olson- PHI- Age 22- His TIA has been used, and only been reversed one time. Otherwise, he’s got everything else. I like him, but average in doubles combined with a fair in strikeout talent rating is not to my liking. I’ll take Dominic Smith over him, but certainly a case for Olson to be number one I suppose. He is ready for the show, and I’m not sure why he hasn’t been called up yet. Maybe Temp didn’t get his export in.
3. Raymond Deherrera- CLE- Age 21- Hey guys, I lost a trade! I traded this guy for Bobby Parnell, fellas! I actually didn’t want to give this guy up, but D-Rowe was playing hard ball, and a few sims later…he gets an awesome PD. Unbelievable. Only his TIA has been used.
Bash away, folks!
