Following the 2005 season, the Rockies have decided to expand Coors Field's seating capacity for the first time since the park opened in 1995. For the past 11 years, Coors Field's seating capacity was at 50,200. After the expansion happens this upcoming offseason, Coors Field should be able to have at least 59,000 seats, which would put them among the top in all of baseball for seating capacity. The Rockies also announced they will be paying $30.6 million up-front from their stadium bank and that the expansion is scheduled to be completed by Opening Day 2006. At his press conference, GM Shale Briskin seemed happy that this was finally going to happen after bringing up the idea a few seasons ago. "Our fans are very passionate. They love our team and our stadium. Our market size had recently dropped, so I went to the front office and mentioned that because of the market drop, we had do something to increase revenue and make more money. Our ticket sales have always been very good and now that this team has improved, we're hoping many more fans will come to the ballpark regularly." Center fielder/clubhouse leader Carl Everett said, "We got a great team here, man! We got so much potential, so much talent. The sky is the limit! This team can do big things next season! We gonna work harder, get stronger in the weight room, run more and take better care of ourselves to make it happen. No doubt!" Everett then saw Dinger, the Rockies' dinosaur mascot and punched him, being that he does not believe in dinosaurs. He was fined $50k for the incident and cannot put his hands on Dinger ever again. "I'm excited to see more fans here. This is what people here wanna see...the Rockies hitting home runs, pitching well and winning games! The more seats, the better. I've had such a blast in my rookie season being up here. There is no other place I'd rather be. We had a very good team this year and next season I think we can be even better!", stated shortstop David Wright, who recently won the 2005 OOTP NL Rookie of the Year Award. Coors Field is one of the newer parks in baseball. The Rockies had to spend their first two seasons in 1993 and 1994 at Mile High Stadium, while Coors Field was being built. Briskin added, "At this point, with Coors Field heading into just its 12th season, there is no need for any significant renovations of any kind. The choice to use our stadium money for a seating expansion was definitely the right call." The Rockies are just coming off an 85-win 2005 season and finished in second place behind the rival Padres. Despite missing the postseason, this was the Rockies' first winning season since 1999. The team seems to be moving in a good direction for the future with young stars such as John Lackey, David Wright, Corey Hart and Jesus Feliciano all on board. The veteran leadership is there too, with veterans like Jay Gibbons, Edgardo Alfonzo, Carl Everett, Jeromy Burnitz, Dennis Stark and Armando Benitez. In an NL West division that features the Giants, Diamondbacks and Dodgers all rebuilding and the defending division champion Padres looking to possibly retool, the Rockies have a great opportunity in front of them for the near future. Hopefully, this seating expansion will lead to more money for the Rockies in order to be able to afford better talent!

It'll go up. I don't have anything else to spend on anyway. This stadium was opened in 1995 and looks fine.

The way I see it is that this was gonna happen at some point. If not now, then in the future. So why not now? The stadium is entering its 12th season. It looks good as new and doesn't need significant upgrades. I'm not gonna be getting any more stadium money for a while with the way my finances are. So, it was this or just do nothing and I dunno maybe this seating expansion will bring good luck to my team. Again, this was gonna happen at some point regardless.

If you have the cash spend it, stadium banks are limited to 100 anyway, I wasn't selling out when I expanded either
