1. Houston Astros
Name: Ryan Braun LF
Age: 20
Ratings: B/B/F/B/F/A
Lol. Not sure how Houston ended up with 121 losses but they had to give Garrett Jones in order to move back into the top spot. Jones is untouched and looks like he would go top 6 in the draft so that is a major piece to have to move in order to move back up. Now Houston will have to pray not to have bad pd luck with braun. The Hebrew Hammer is the clear number one based solely on his hitting. He has the dubious distinction of being one of very few players with a fielding pct under .900 but he is going to be paid for his bat and will probably play lf or dh. Could be tibd into a solid base stealer.
2. Atlanta Braves
Name: Troy Tulowitzki SS
Age: 19
Ratings: G/B/F/G/A/G
I know that most gms are leaning towards McCutchen at 2 but they seem close and I would rather have a ss than a CF, especially a SS with good defense. Tulowitzki is far from a one-way player and offers plenty offensively also. He hits for power and avg and is a brilliant doubles hitter.
3. Boston Red Sox
Name: Andrew McCutchen CF
Age: 17
Ratings: G/B/G/G/G/A
Meh, Break really shouldn’t have this pick. He pulled stuff which went clearly over the unwritten line. McCutchen isn’t going to be the hitter/slugger that Braun will be but he won’t be a defensive liability either. Not the elite base stealer that many CFs are, he could still become good with tibs to speed/stl. Of course I am a big fan of range in CF so if I had him I might tib him there. I’m not getting him anyway so it doesn’t really matter though.
4. Philadelphia Phillies
Name: Ryan Zimmerman 3B
Age: 19
Ratings: G/B/P/G/A/A
I would take Bruce here just because of the rarity of Brilliant homers but that probably has me in the minority of gms. Zim does have the much coveted G/B/G hits/doubles/homers and will be a very good hitter. The best thing that can be said about his defense is that he isn’t Braun. On the other hand, Braun at least can be stuck in LF. Whoever gets him better hope that he learns how to play LF.
5. Tampa Bay Devil Rays
Name: Jay Bruce RF
Age: 17
Ratings: A/G/P/B/A/A
Hard to pass up the brilliant in homers though I am pretty sure that Ellsbury is a better pick. Maybe even Feliz if you could turn him into a starter. Or Gordon. Or Upton. When in doubt go with scarcity so Bruce it is. I really like the fact that he doesn’t have stone hands. He can be tibd into a solid defensive player and if he doesn’t become a pd casualty – unlikely on the Devil Rays – then he will also be a very good hitter.
6. Minnesota Twins
Name: Justin Upton RF
Age: 16
Ratings: G/G/A/G/A/A
This pick could go a ton of different ways. I don’t really look at need because by the time anybody drafted hits the majors nobody will know what they will need but it depends on how you value pitching vs hitting, o vs d, speed vs power. I think that Upton has the solid all around game which will get him picked here.
7. Arizona Diamondbacks
Name: Alex Gordon 3B
Age: 20
Ratings: A/B/F/G/A/A
I really like Gordon. I like the fact that he is almost ready to play. I like the fact that he can play the infield and the outfield, albeit not so well at 3B. TIAing his hits will be necessary as well as trying to teach him as many positions as possible. Already looks like a great LFer but I would rather hide poor defensive players there.
8. Kansas City Royals
Name: Jacoby Ellsbury CF
Age: 20
Ratings: G/G/B/F/F/G
Is it time for a pitcher? It really might be but I don’t really like Pineda that much bc he lacks brilliance (or brilliants). If Feliz was an E duration starter I would take him here but there is really no guarantee that will ever happen. Since you can’t tib and convert right away then a hit to his duration could leave him as a reliever, a stud reliever but still just a reliever. Ellsbury is ready to go speedwise and dwise. The fair walks will hurt because his value is connected to his ability to get on base. Not going to hit a lot of homers but that won’t be his job wherever he lands.
9. Milwaukee Brewers
Name: Neftali Feliz CL
Age: 16
Born in: Dominican Republic
Ratings: B/G/G/A/B
The third reliever that I would take goes first based solely on the possibility that he could be a starter. I might be wrong but I don’t think you can tib a rookie so you could only try a move next year post tib. If his conversion goes well and if he doesn’t have bad pds then all he will need is a tia to his walks and will look amazing. We will see.
10. Chicago Cubs via Anaheim Angels
Name: Chase Headley 3B
Age: 20
Ratings: A/G/P/G/A/A
Play has said he wants a closer but with Romo and Torres still on the board he will take either Headley or Joyce here and take a closer later. I’m not really sold on either Joyce or Headley. A range looks good but do third baseman really move? The 965% can be tibd and he will be a solid defensive player. He can also play LF but not well. Will be a solid hitter and a solid player. Not great but solid.
11. Colorado Rockies
Name: Matt Joyce RF
Age: 20
Ratings: G/G/P/A/A/B
I like Joyce. He might be slightly better than Headley but I would rather have the defensive flexibility. Joyce is a solid player, similar to Headley, not a star but a solid player. Solid, defensive outfielder. Not going to do damage on the bases.
12. Boston Red Sox via Cincinnati Reds
Name: Michael Pineda SP
Age: 15
Ratings: G/G/G/G/G
Time for a run on pitchers mainly because the hitters left are nothing special. Tbh, Romo and Torres seem like better bets than the starters but starters value is so much higher I don’t think that I would pick them yet. Pineda, Garza, Lynn are all very close and I could see them going in any order. Pineda doesn’t have to be tiad anywhere and his velocity is 8. That and the fact that the game has him on top would be enough for me to take him over the other 2. One good pd could have him being one of the best pitchers in the league but without it he might not ever make it in the bigs. Could also do something dumb like take a Red Sox player just to try and prove that the Maddux move wasn’t tank motivated.
13. Los Angeles Dodgers
Name: Matt Garza SP
Age: 20
Ratings: G/G/A/G/G
Garza or Lynn? I would rather have the more developed pitcher so for me it isn’t much of a choice. Garza has 2s and 3s and Lynn has 1s. Just lowers the chance that the game messes you over and with my luck I would rather leave as little to chance as possible. Lots of guys with the Good talent ratings seem to toil in the minors and pitchers seem less of a sure thing then hitter. Of course that is based on my one year of observation and might not mean anything.
14. Chicago Cubs via Texas Rangers
Name: Sergio Romo CL
Age: 21
Ratings: B/G/G/G/B
Play said he would take him and Play never lies. Or does he? I would take Torres because he looks better. Torres is ranked lower but that might just bc he is listed as a MR. Idk because I don’t really understand the game but it seems to list closers higher and I don’t know if the sim actually makes it harder on MRs to close. My guess is that it doesn’t and if Erbes would call Torres a closer he would be ranked higher. In any case, play said he would take Romo or Feliz so Romo it is.
15. Florida Marlins
Name: Lance Lynn SP
Age: 17
Ratings: G/G/G/A/B
If I had this pick, I would take Torres but that is just me. I really like Lynn’s strikeout ability but that won’t be enough to make him a stud. Gonna need pd luck.
