Kansas City, MO
The Kansas City Royals have long sought a manager that could bring the franchise together...and that man is Frank White.
White was a Royal great and knows the ins and outs of playing in the financially dim market that is Kansas City. White amassed a very solid playing career and has garnered a ton of respect around the game. The fans love him and the owners do too, making him a Royals Hall of Famer last season.
Frank White is not an ordinary type of thinker either. He's into statistics, he respects the National League style and may implement several of those "old school" ideas as manager.
The new skipper will have a young team to work with but some key veterans such as Kevin Appier, who inked a 4 year extension with the Royals last month. "It was very important to me that we get something done, because I want to win here, and this franchise means a lot to me. The owner and management team has done a great job of improving for next year and beyond, and that's what important to me and my family." quipped Appier, who will likely be the teams most dependable workhorse next to Jose Rosado.
With Rosado and Appier in the fold, the Royals next task was to find the right man to lead the team and they are very confident in White. Royals scouts have been working with White during the season to identify pitching for next season, as the Royals bullpen will likely get a makeover. "You need to have to strong pitching from 1-12. You cannot have lapses because winning teams pitch well in every inning and in every series. It's pivotal for us to improve in that area, and I feel that working with our scouting department has helped me gain a better understanding of how to utilize pitchers and get them prepared.
All in all, Kansas City is in great shape for the future, and with some financial flexibility moving forward, the Royals can get good quickly.
