...That Anyone Could Have!
I think it's about time somebody went back and looked at all the "trades" between Cleveland, Boston, and Colorado. There have been the bad, the ugly, and the terrifying - mostly involving Cleveland as the bender overer. We'll look at the players, their value, and some of the ridiculous things Shale has said to back up his friends.
Trade #1: A Boring Beginning
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=367
Colorado receives:
SP Jamie Moyer
RP Mike Maddux
Boston receives:
CF Quinton McCracken
SP Billy Swift
This was, as the title describes, a boring beginning. Although not a blockbuster, you could start to see Break showing dominance. He gave up nothing and in return got a serviceable outfielder. This was a harbinger of things to come.
Trade #2: The Beginning of the End for drowe13
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=606&page=1
Cleveland receives:
C Mike Stanley
SP Juan Cruz
SP Angel Diaz
SP Jason Anderson
1999 Boston 1st rounder
1999 Boston 2nd rounder
Boston receives:
LF Manny Ramirez
MR Chad Ogea
C Sandy Alomar Jr.
Oh no. Oh yes. The first pillaging. Man-Ram, a top 10 hitter in the league, moves teams for an aging catching, 3 non-prospect SPs (Cruz is solid now because of a PD, no?), and late round draft picks. Why wasn't Manny blocked? Why trade him at all? This was the beginning of the end for drowe13's autonomy in the league. From here on out, he became a mere puppet.
Memorable quotes from trade thread:
how do you not get nomar
I defended him because I've known him for a long time. I also defended him because I've seen him take Boston in Longballer to the playoffs more times than I've seen Pedro throw a solid game for you.
Wow this seems like hardcore bias against me because im in the same division.
Trade #3: Completing the Triangle
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=693
Colorado receives:
SP Dwight Gooden
Cleveland receives:
1998 1st round pick
1999 2nd round pick
Dare I say the rapee becomes the raper here? Drowe pulls a 180 and splashes all over Shale in this deal. Who would have thought Shale's love for shitty Mets players would come back to bite him in the ass?
Trade #5: Back to the Well
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=694
Colorado receives:
MR Ricky Bones
MR Curtis Leskanic
Boston receives:
CL Heathcliff Slocumb
If it's hard for your to determine which teams are competing in these deals and which are tanking, you're not alone. The Rockies trade picks away like they're candy and then trade away their talent! Do these guys have plan or do they wing it? We may never know.
Trade #6: 2004 Red Sox Assemble!
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=691
Boston receives:
RF Trot Nixon
Cleveland receives:
1998 Boston 3rd round pick
1999 Boston 3rd round pick
SP Harry Tatsukichi
For some odd reason, break thinks assembling the 2004 Red Sox is going to win him a World Series. Little does he know I made all of those players ticking time bombs. When 2004 rolls around they will suffer massive PD hits at the same exact time and therefore become utterly useless. #conspiracy But seriously, nothing screams friend trade more than this one.
Trade #7: Wait I Thought They Were Tanking...
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=725
Colorado receives:
MR Jose Mesa
Cleveland receives:
1999 Colorado 3rd round pick
Wait, weren't the Rockies tanking after that last trade? This is like watching a bad movie with no ending in sight. Nobody has any idea what's happening!
Trade #8: We Should Help Each Other More Often
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=726
Boston receives:
MR Paul Assenmacher
Cleveland receives:
SP Chris Reitsma
MR Robert Boothby
At this point it's like do you think they realize there are more than just 2 other teams in the league?
Trade #9: Another One Bites the Dust
Boston receives:
2B Lou Merloni
Cleveland receives:
LF Roy Massaro
SP Brian Rose
SP Tim Wakefield
I'm running out of trade titles at this point. Surprised Break traded Wakefield, oh no I'm not. He knows he can re-trade for him at any time.
Memorable quotes from the trade thread:
hope we get an export from Cleveland this next sim!
down to 18 guys on the roster bra!
didn't mean to get your panties bunched up bra!
I know it is tough adding only 2 FA's per sim!
Trade #10: Big Mac in Coors WAS a Great Idea
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=1005
Boston receives:
1B Andres Galaragga
C Jorge Fabregas
SP Tim Drew
1B Jack Dearing
1999 Colorado 1st round pick
$2M on-board cash
Colorado receives:
1B Mark McGwire
C Scott Hatteberg
SP Mike Sirotka
MR Rick Helling
Woooo a fair!??! Not really. Big Mac (and his monstrous contract) died quickly after arriving in Denver and saddle Shale with nothing, but wasted money. Meanwhile, The Cat had a few good season in Boston. On top of all that, Boston actually got board cash and a 1st out of this. Bonkers.
Memorable quotes from the trade thread:
Hmm I didn't realize Mac was 34. The game does like to kill people around age 35. Hopefully he keeps it.
Trade #11: The Void
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=1176&page=1
Boston receives:
2000 Cleveland 1st round pick (Cliff Lee)
C Einar Diaz
Cleveland receives:
2002 Boston 1st round pick
2002 Boston 2nd round pick
2002 Boston 3rd round pick
SP John Gaspar
LF Rick Elder
1B Andres Galaragga (2nd time traded in triangle)
MR Brad Pennington
1B Jack Dearing (2nd time traded in triangle - actually going back to Cleveland)
SP Jeff Austin
Oh nellie did the wheels fall off on this one! Break finally stretched his reach too far and the league spoke up. I wonder just how far up drowe's ass break was on this one? Literally give nothing for one of the best prospects to ever come through BBSBL. I'll let the quotes do the talking on this one.
Memorable quotes from the trade thread:
smh, indians bending over for break more than danchevy did for himself
#gofuckyourselfwiththatbiasshit
Meh Break wanted to make a salary dump with Galarragga and decided to help D-Rowe a bit. I think a lot of people are overthinking this trade. This is not the level of the Manny trade and definitely NOT anywhere close to the CC trade...
Gaspar will develop look at all the exploding guys with low runs that develop (TVP cough), the salary part doesnt really matter...2002 is a pretty deep draft no? doubt he ends up picking first
Trade #12: What are Friends for Anyways?
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=1191
Boston receives:
C Einar Diaz
3B Drew Henson
Cleveland receives:
2002 Boston 2nd round pick
2002 Boston 3rd round pick
1B Andres Galaragga
MR Brad Pennington
If at first you don't succeed, try until you rape your friend so hard he bleeds and shits blood for the next 48 hours. Break needed out of a bad contract so he called up his trusty pal, drowe and we have this awesome deal! Wish I had a cum dumpster where I could put all of my bad contacts.
Trade #13: Did Shale Win This One? Nahhh
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=1323
Boston receives:
SP Pat Hentgen
MR Bob Tewksbury
C Craig Brazell
CL J.C. Romero
Colorado receives:
SP John Burkett
LF Billy Ashley
$1.5M board cash
This trade allows to revisit the god awful one Shale made when he traded Todd Helton! Oh lordy. What a bad trade. Just think how good his offense would have been had he not traded Helton. He probably could have hit his way past San Fran. Or what if he actually traded him for good pitchers?? That would have been too easy though. He'd much prefer to keep trading with friends and be mediocre. We're all here for a good time right?
Trade #14: The Dumpster Overflows
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=1372
Boston receives:
2000 Colorado 2nd round pick
Colorado receives:
$7M game cash
Taking on shitty contract after shitty contract finally caught up to Shale and the Rockies. What sucks for him is that I got $12M for my 2nd rounder...
Trade #15: Long Time, No See... Oh NVM
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=1408
Boston receives:
2001 Colorado 3rd round pick
Colorado receives:
$2.5M board cash
Shale wins! Not sure how break has lived this one down since...
Trade #16: The Failed Blockbuster
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=1438&page=1
Boston receives:
SP Kevin Tapani
MR Bruce Ruffin
SP Willie Fraser
C Lenny Webster
SP Ramon Gallardo
CL Josh Pierce
Colorado receives:
LF Ellis Burks
C Einar Diaz (2nd time traded between the triangle)
Proclaimed as the trade that would seal Colorado the NL West at one point. This trade did nothing, but clear dead salary for the Red Sox... again. Some pretty awesome quotes on this one.
Memorable quotes from the trade thread:
Yeah I hate this because I feel if COL couldn't compete with SF as they were, Burks isn't gonna push them over the top, then the salaries mehhh
I have a championship team right now. The Rockies are the best team in the NL from this moment on.
I feel I would win any series now against the Braves, Cubs, Astros, Giants and whoever the fuck else.
You haters think I'm full of shit but when these forums are all purple and black, you'll all be like "Damn, the Rockies don't fuck around!"
lost in all this is that the Giants have well...everything
The Rockies will beat the shit outta the Giants and win the NL West by at least 3 or 4 games now.
lol top 5 pitcher
Saito wouldn't even crack my rotation.
He would be your 4 behind Johan, Wilson and Wood.
Trade in. Does not count for frenzy. This trade could have been combined with either of your smaller deals.
OMG wtf? This was an enormous deal that we thought of at a later time. That's bullshit. This has to fuckin count.
Trade #17: Friends Helping Friends
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=1416&page=1
Boston receives:
RF Jason Repko
SP Nate Robertson
Colorado receives:
MR Alan Embree
Yayayaya for friend trades! Nobody takes discounts like your best online friends. Who wants to steam chat later?? Still can't believe this one counted for the trade frenzy. Sorry Ashes!
Trade #18: The 'REAL' Blockbuster
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=1590&page=1
Colorado receives:
2001 Toronto 1st round pick
2002 Boston 2nd round pick
2002 Boston 3rd round pick
SP Chris Reitsma (2nd time traded in the triangle)
RF Matt Diaz
SP Andres Cerda
Cleveland receives:
CF Ellis Burks (2nd time traded in the triangle)
3B Vinny Castilla
2B Eric Young
CF Matt Lawton
2003 Colorado 1st round pick
Drowe has finally had enough of being the annual dumping hole and makes this peach of a trade! Nothing like taking on a bunch of old geriatric fucks to make your team a winner. I think this trade was also a huge emotional breakthrough for Shale. He finally realized his team sucks... and has sucked... for a long time.
Memorable quotes from the trade thread:
there goes their production.....from one bad manager to another
I can't even get a reply back from drowe. Only if I was his e-friend
cle/col/bos just rotate players. It's cute.
Lol at my division.
Trade #19: Where My Bros At?
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=1619
Boston receives:
SP Angel Diaz
SS Greg Norton
Cleveland receives:
SP Greg Swindell
MR Ken Ryan
You have to give these guys credit. When they need something, they know where to go. Drowe needs bullpen help, break answers the call... with shitty relievers.
Trade #20: Seriously How Many Times Can Three Teams Trade Together?
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=1631
Boston receives:
SP Juan Guzman
Colorado receives:
SP Willie Fraser (2nd time traded in the triangle)
DH Damon Buford
LF Jason Repko (2nd time traded in the triangle)
3B Willie Greene
The Triangle's motto: If the player doesn't work for you, he'll definitely work for me! The merry-go-round of players at this point is getting to be the biggest joke of the league. And honestly it's probably ruining whatever integrity we have.
Trade #21: Wait!! Where Did This Come From??
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=470&page=1
Boston receives:
1B Richie Sexson
SP Bartolo Colon
CF Kenny Lofton
MR Julian Tavarez
1B Julio Franco
Cleveland receives:
1B Mo Vaughn
2B Lou Merloni (2nd time traded in the triangle)
OF Troy O'Leary
OF Trot Nixon (2nd time traded in the triangle)
SP Aaron Sele
SP Dwight Gooden (2nd time traded in the triangle)
1997 Boston 2nd round pick
LOL this trade got bumped recently... What a horrible trade and sign of things to come. I don't think Sexson was as good during this trade as he is now, but Colon, Lofton, and Tavarez surely were.
Memorable quotes from the trade thread:
modified to fix my retarded mistake. Cleveland means business about winning soon.
this trade was garbage for cleveland from the start.
Cleveland plans on competing in 2000 and he probably thinks he will be able to literally steamroll the entire AL Central.
keep defending them
smfh
Trade #22: Team Improvement
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=1696&page=1
Boston receives:
SP Amaury Telamaco
$5M game cash
Cleveland receives:
SP Juan Guzman (2nd time trade in the triangle)
And around and around we go. Heralded as a huge boost for the Indians, Guzman couldn't be anymore mediocre at the moment. Shelling out more than $25M to bring Guzman aboard can be considered nothing more than a failure for drowe at this point... shocker.
Memorable quotes from the trade thread:
love it for the tag team here. If one team benefits, they both benefit.
damn you guys got his whole future planned out for him.
You all whined about him not spending anything and tanking now you're whining because he's in the transition year. stfu already.
No we're all tired of the BS trades you make with him. Telemaco is a better player, cheaper and you get cash on top of it?
Did you at least use vaseline?
Cleveland. Where Colorado and Boston's old ass players go to die
Trade #23: Which Team Does He Play for Again?
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=1760&page=1
Boston receives:
LF Dante Bichette
$2M board cash
Colorado receives:
LF Al Martin
MR Tim Wakefield (2nd time traded in the triangle)
"Hey you're right break! Instead of shopping around my guys and getting the best value for them, I'll just trade them all to you for shitty non-useful players. Oh you want me to add some board cash even though I'm tanking? Yeah you got it buddy! Let's go three-way steam chat with drowe and take dick pics and send them to each other over the internet!"
Memorable quotes from the trade thread:
I wish I had two teams to trade with to help me fill holes when needed. Or to dump salary...whichever I need.
I wish I had two teams to trade with to help me fill holes when needed. Or to dump salary...whichever I need.
It's called making friends. You might wanna try it some time. Easier to deal when you have history.
Trade #24: This is the End
bbsblthree.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trades&action=display&thread=1776&page=1
Boston receives:
$1.25M board cash
Colorado receives:
2003 Boston 3rd round pick
2003 Boston 4th round pick
Thank gawdddddd Shale was around to reverse Pedro's PD hit! Where would break have been if Shale wasn't here? Oh true, he has drowe.
Memorable quotes from the trade thread:
Lol Shale edited out that he was helping out a friend. Nice!
Whatever...
Might as well trade the cash for nothing and just say you're helping him for free
He talked me down from how much I wanted. He definitely didn't just take the first offer I sent him.
Wowowow there's a couple hours I'll never get back from my life. Can't believe there were 24 trades between 3 guys. Here's the final stats:
Trades between COL-BOS: 11
Trades between BOS-CLE: 9
Trades between CLE-COL: 4
Clearly Shale and Dan aren't as close as friends.
