This is a great topic of discussion. It seems as though Erbes is set with realignment. Many Gms are open to the idea. Be it for better or different competition or just sheer boredom it seems like its gonna happen. There doesn't seem to be a consensus for how it should be done though so Ill try to look at it and discus it. As well as come up with a plan that could work for everyone. Extremely hard to get so many different people on the same page, but Ill try.
I will also do a GM Rankings along with the realignment idea. Evening out the divisions is key so making sure each division has similar GM strength is key. All teams rise and fall but for the most part you know how good or bad a GM is. Trying to make sure each division is fair or even is gonna be key in any realignment plan.
First of all I am in favor of 4 divisions, 2 in each league. Some don't like this but I really do. It has a real life historical attribute which I like. But even more important than that it should allow us to break up the divisions more easily in a geographic sense. This isn't important for some but it is important for a few. Trying to manipulate the needs of many is the tough part. But I think the 2 divisions gives the historic fringe something. Plus in the end its about the best 4 teams making the playoffs. In this case I think we can have it happen pretty easily. Especially with an even schedule, every team playing every team in their league the same amount of times.
So 4 divisions, 2 in each league. American League East and West. National League East and West. Now we must decide on the top 8 GMs and distribute them among each division. Preferably 2 in each. This is where it gets trickier. But Ill dive in and rank the GMs 1-8 and then place them in the 4 divisions.
1. Play. I think he does the best job of acquiring talent. He also gets good value. If he cant get good value he wont deal. He almost always has lots of valuable players. Hes had pretty bad playoff luck. Probably the only reason he isn't a unanimous [HASH]1 pick among his peers. I think sometimes he doesn't make trades for players that "fit". he just puts out uber-talented or rated guys and doesn't acquire the role players that can help push him over the top.
2. Ashes. Lots of people can say, "Its Miggy". And to some degree a lot of his success can be attributed to Miguel Cabrera. But he has a ton of talent outside of Cabrera and he won before Cabrera. And Miggy or not he has 5 titles. Crazy. The most wins too. So regardless of why hes 1 or 2. Results are results. Plus he has completely been retooling and still winning 120 games. Unreal.
3. Me. I think 4 titles and lots of wins is enough. I make bad deals. I make up for it with activity. Overall I know my park well. I know OOTP well. Ive also built relationships with people that allow me to make solid deals for myself. It is what it is. Bottom line is I have 4 titles and the second most wins and Ive done it with tons of different cores. Pretty easy that Im top 3.
4. Stevie B. Love this guy. he does a real good job. Hes always been stuck in a tough spot going up against the other Gms rated above. Hard to be the 4th best Gm in the league. Has definately affected his ability to win big. Still he has put together amazing teams. Always makes good trades it seems.
Yup. You guessed it. None of these guys are in the same division.
5. Broph. I like his analytic style. He brings some interesting ideas of discussion. He realy studies the game. When he has time hes realy elite. I do think he gets caught up too much with having valuable players instead of just winning. Sometimes the most valuable player isnt as good as 3 guys that can sim really well. Just my opinion. Still hes a very good GM and is about to explode with his team.
6. Chris. Hes a really good GM. He isn't even overly active. If he spent more time here or could earn tons of board cash hed be even better. Bottom line is he knows the game. He knows how to win. Its a great combination. Look at his current team. How is it a WS team?
7. Erbes. I think he does a good job when hes interested or when he has time. Obviously those vary quite a bit. Right now his team is good. And he just made some very good trades. Overall I like his team alot and his ability to compete retool and compete again.
8. Break. Might get some flak for this might I like Break a lot. He uses his market to his advantage. He overspends. But overall he does a great job of winning. And thats why we are here. To win.
So after the top 8 we have a basis for our league. Here it goes....
AL East
1. Stevie B(4)
2. Erbes(7)
AL West
1. Play(1)
2. Chris(6)
NL East
1. Ashes(2)
2. Break(8)
NL West
1. Spencer(3)
2. Broph(5)
Based on simple numbers the East league need a couple more really good GMs. Because they got the 7th and 8th best GMs.
9.Steve. He doesnt trade much. Flies under the radar too much, But he has a shitty market and financials. And recently hes really been good. I think in a better market he could do more and for his market slow and steady is fine. Which is what he does best.
10.DRowe. He had a lot of help with his market and revenues, but he used it well. He always seems to win. He knows how to mix and match older and younger players. More inclined to win than have valuable players.
AL East
1. Stevie B(4)
2. Erbes(7)
3. DRowe(10)
AL West
1. Play(1)
2. Chris(6)
NL East
1. Ashes(2)
2. Break(8)
3. Steve(9)
NL West
1. Spencer(3)
2. Broph(5)
The middle comes next. This is just the fillers for the middle to good GMs.
11. Greeme. Love his activity. Can manipulate a bad market. Does a good job of flipping. Should have San Diego good again soon.
12. Aaron. This guy is all about time. Top 10 Gm when hes invested and has time. Completely irrelevant otherwise. Ghost-town.
13. Jah. Solid. Not spectacular. Wins year to year. Doesnt lose too much. Can value older players. Always seems to have youth.
14. Styro. 14 with a bullet. Had a horrible situation with Minnesota. Is a very good Gm that has been MIA for years because of his market. Cant wait to see what he does over the next 5 years.
15. Stutter. Makes some bad moves. If he doesnt trade stone hes decent. Very good Gm over the last 5 BBSBL seasons.
16. Darell. Seems like his interest wains. When hes consistently around hes good. Might be too much of a homer. Tends to give too much up for over priced vets.
17. Kobe. Cocaine. If he was invested hed be a top 12 guy. Still love his activity when hes winning and when things are going well. The Rasheed Wallace of BBSBL.
18. Dave. Slightly less good version of JAH. Consistent but even less active. Also tends to be really hard to deal with. Also a homer.
19. Bosoxi. Hes so good in the other league I was in with him. Im guessing he doesnt have the time to be as good here. Still a very good GM and knows OOTP.
20. Shale. Hes so active it covers a ton of his mistakes. Makes bad trades. Is afraid to trade too much. Homerism seems to be lessening.
AL East
1. Stevie B(4)
2. Erbes(7)
3. DRowe(10)
4. JAH (13)
5. Dave(18)
AL West
1. Play(1)
2. Chris(6)
3. Greeme(11)
4. Darell(16)
5. Bosoxi(19)
NL East
1. Ashes(2)
2. Break(8)
3. Steve(9)
4. Styro(14)
5. Kobe(17)
NL West
1. Spencer(3)
2. Broph(5)
3. Aaron (12)
4. Stutter (15)
5. Shale(20)
The bottom. Im not gonna get into why these guys are on the bottom. Mostly inexperience or propensity for bad deals. Or lack of activity. Overall these guys just havent had the success of others. Not saying they cant turn it around but right now this is where they rank in my opinion.
21.Game
22.Stool
23.Dan
24.Max
25.HF

Alright here it is. I like the combination of somewhat realistic geography, GM talent and new rivalries. Along with some old rivalries. Overall Im a big fan of it. Hope you all like it!
