1. You're a relatively new member. How is BBSBL treating you? First impressions of the league?
I love this game! Having a blast and the people here have treated me well. I am excited to stay active and keep being a good member of this community! Glad I was finally granted a team...even though it took forever!
BBSBL is the best baseball league around. Activity creativity and consistent sim schedule. Cant ask for more. Also some of the best GMs around. If you can win here you can be successful in any league. This league will test you though. Lots of very talented Gms come in and cant win consistently. And not winning can be frustrating. Please take your time to build your team and be consistent with your activity. Don't give up.
2. How much experience do you have in OOTP? Have you been in other leagues? If yes, how does BBSBL differ from those leagues?
Well, this is my first time being a GM in an OOTP game. I have never experienced anything like this game. The closest would have to be MLBDH that I played with a few Gm's from here. That group of people evolved and we started playing League of Legends and that landed me the connect into this game.
Ill say it. This is a tough league to start in. Lots of aspects of winning here are beyond that of OOTP. Making board cash. being active. Keeping up with league trends. All of these things make the game much more difficult. Then you have to try and learn OOTP. Its an outdated game that has its flaws. But it is easy and still a better sim engine than most. This league is equal parts BBSBL knowledge and OOTP knowledge. Best of luck to you.
3. You were put in a position that you didn't need to rebuild. Greeme had a pretty solid team set up. Lots of cash. Had built up the teams FI. What was your thought process in rebuilding?
I took the perspective that I wanted to build my team. I did not want to aimlessly coach a team I did not build. So I figured I could learn the game by rebuilding with the guidance of other GM's. I have received a lot of help from Greeme, Play, Shale, and Bush( JoseAltuve.) So far trading and negotiating with Gm's have been a lot of fun. I love playing fantasy sports...especially baseball and this game allows me to get my fill of fantasy baseball year round. I truly believe, it would be much more fun to build a team then to coach an already established 100 win team.
I think you should've ridden his team for a bit. learned values better. tried to get some success with DC building. Kinda tweaking your lineups and staff and such. I think you would've learned more trying to win. And then eventually rebuilt. I think rebuilding seems like the right thing to do, but Ill be honest I dont think youll compete anytime soon. Its so hard to compete here. Even harder with a small market. But you combine your market with your lack of experience and Ill be surprised if you sniff 500 for the next 8 seasons. Not trying to be a dick. Just stating facts.
4. What type of players have you been looking to acquire? What are your organizational strengths? What do you need to add?
Right now the goal is to acquire hitters. I have traded most of my studs and MLB talent and have acquired a lot of pitching depth. My greatest strength at the moment would be my young arms. I believe in 5-6 years I am going to have a really strong pitching staff. So the plan now is to move what I have left and maybe some pitching specs for some solid hitting specs. Also, tank to acquire hitting studs in the upcoming drafts.
You do have some nice young talent. I like your core top 10 spects. I think you need to continue to add guys though. Also don't underestimate the need for role players. And loyalty with your market. All of these will be key to your long term success. But you do have a nice core to start with. Stock up on board cash so these guys dont fall apart. Don't let the OOTP PDs kill you.
5. How big is your rebuild window? Have you thought about how long you want to take to rebuild? Or are you just gonna decide based on the development of your core players?
Rebuilding is going to take anywhere from 5-6 years. It all depends on the development of my players and how well the team starts out of the gate on season 5/6. However, I am new to the game and will learn as I go. I just do not want to make the mistake of trying to compete to early and fucking my entire rebuild process. I think I have made some solid trades that helped me build a solid foundation of a farm system that I need to just wait out and watch develop.
Be careful not to be reactionary. At some point you have to take action. Don't sit back and load up on young players with no hope of competing. Buy low and sell high. Always have maximum in game cash. Get some solid players on good contracts. Keep your young players and then trade them as their salaries increase. Take advantage of where the rest of your division is. When someone rebuilds. Capitalize.
6. Are you at all worried about your market? Greeme had done a pretty good job of maximizing fan interest. Are you at all concerned about re developing your fan base?
When the time comes I will deal with this issue. To be honest, I do not know much about the markets and I hope some friendly GM's will help me along the way.
Its important. I think the time is now. Learning about the league. Look into your stadium. Can making an new stadium increase your fan loyalty, market, etc? Whats the process of making a new stadium? What is market, loyalty and interest? How are they different? If you do make a stadium what are the important things to focus on? All of these are items you should be looking in to.
7. In game cash is extremely valuable. Have you noticed this trend? If so how do you plan to capitalize on it during your rebuild? Also have you considered building a new stadium with it?
Oh the In-game cash! Who knows what the value will be as the years go on. I can definitely tell that the value is sky rocketing. My objective is to start hoarding and getting board cash to better my specs and leave more options available. I have a lot of money coming my way after this year when Dice-K comes off the books. I believe he is almost a quarter of my payroll.
Very important. It really always has been. But as more teams compete the need for cash climbs. You have to decide how much you keep, how much goes to the stadium fund and how much you sell. Its a sellers market so you can gain a ton of board cash if you so desire. But like I said before building a new stadium might be preferable. All important things for you to decide on.
8. The PD Reversal rules have been a topic of debate. What is your take on the process and the current state of the PD Reversals rule?
I am fairly new to this game. With that being said there are definitely benefits....but in my personal opinion it is just another rule to learn and figure out. I do not have the knowledge to form an opinion other than it is a new thing to learn and understand. Therefore, making the learning curve harder...but, I shall adapt and overcome and figure out what ever is decided.
I think it affects you less than others because you're brand new. And I'm glad you weren't adversely affected by the meaningless vote we were all put through. It is important not to alienate GMs, and new ones are just important as old ones at this point. We definitely need PD reversals. OOTP goes crazy with them sometimes.
9. Seems like you know some of the guys in the league already. Who do you know? What do you think of them as men and OOTP GMs?
LOL!. Well I know the following GM's: Shale, BreaktheWalls, and Jose Altuve(Bush. I know more but, these guys are the ones I speak with on Ventrilo on a regular basis. As men.......Shale is really uptight and goes crazy about this shit..he means well but I think he reads into this game wayyy to much and is easy to be trolled. Break, I have been pwning him at videogames for years...he is by far the easiest person to troll....he believes the world is out to get him and always cries foul play at any unfortunate events. I have been trying to help him for years but he never listens. He needs to grow up and not let things bother him so much ( He also needs to work on his pushups that video was pathetic) All-in all he is a decent guy if you get to know him...it takes years to see past his shitty attitude...but will see if he changes in time...doubt it lol! Bush sucks at MLBDH and League Of Legends so I am going to assume he sucks here...he also backs out of confirmed deals in this game..but....that is whatever...all in all he's a good guy and I enjoy playing games with him..especially how easy it is to beat him!
LOLd at all 3. Pretty funny. Spot on IMO. You seem like a good guy with an interesting personality. You should fit in well here. Keep posting. Earning cash and trolling Break! LOLO!
10. The Florida Marlins are a juggernaut. Do you think any of the other teams have a shot at knocking them off this year? If so, who has the best chance?
Boston has a chance, but his window is closing with his age of players and lack of replacements or picks. Break's team is screwed in a couple of seasons. FL has a good team and farm system. They seem that they will always be in contention. However, this year the Cubs, Giants, Cleveland, and Boston will give them a run for their money.
I still think the Marlins are too good for anyone. Maybe Boston has a chance. I think Chicago going forward looks amazing. For now though its all about Florida. I guess in the playoffs anything ca happen, but it seems unlikely. I do like Play calling out Ashes and saying hes done though. Love Play for that kind of stuff.
11. Board cash is obviously very important. Do you plan to be active on that front? Do you have any intention of doing articles other than this interview?
I am always going to be active in this game..I am having way to much fun! I might do a couple of articles it all depends how many speeding tickets I have to write at work or If I get bored taking idiots freedom's away.(stay out of Illinois).
This is your first. Congrats. It is important. Its one of the few things you can control in this league. Be active. Do all the free voting and participating. Join the fantasy league. Do pick um. Post 25 times a day. It all adds up.
12. You are a real life Cardinals fan. Sorry about that. Any chance at some homer trades for some of your favorite Cardinals players? Or is that something you will try to avoid?
Homer trades will not be an issue. I am here to win and just like fantasy sports I go for the best deals at every position. I did acquire Wacha and that will probably be the only homer thing I do in this league...I am not shale jr...However, the acquisition of Wacha was a really good deal IMO so I do not believe it was such a homer move.
Thanks for the Interview...Ill be running the tables in 5-7 years!
Stoolfan
Im glad to hear about the home trades. it gets me occasionally. Its pretty dumb tbh. I dont know why its important to me. It kills me I dont have MadBum. I also really hate that Pence sucks here. Very disappointing.
Thanks for the interview as well. I wish you good luck in BBSBL!
