1. Are you at all ashamed of your team? Its too good. Should definitely gift a couple players to the worst teams for parity sake. Do this now please.
I worked pretty hard to put this squad together. Best offense, second best pitching. This is where I envisioned my team all those seasons ago when I began putting the pieces together. I feel like I keep players long enough and then get the value for them at the right time to make all this possible. I don't imagine me losing the East any time soon. Can't be gifting players for parity. Not gonna happen sdog.
You should be ashamed. Its too good. Bad for the league. Look beyond yourelf and trade some guys cheap. Parity. Its better for everyone.
2. Can you keep this squad together? Do you have any future financial/cash concerns? Anyone that might be tough to resign? Any older players hat should leave soon? Or are you comfortable in keeping together this core?
I can keep this team together for a long time. Love loyal players. I have so many sick contracts on my team. I knew taking Nomar would strain my finances for a few seasons, but considering I make roughly $100M revenue with a slightly above average market team, I'd say that's not bad. I can hold out for two seasons and if Nomar is still playing at an elite level, I think I can get him at a discount at that point. I mean I have guys like Jason Kubel locked in for 5 years at $5M. So sick. As for resigning people, I don't know if you've peeped my team, but my whole squad is locked up. Love it. In terms of older guys that should leave soon, my team is really in their prime. Obviously I have Nomar who is old as shit, so after he expires next season I'll evaluate what I want to do with him. I'll probably move guys like Affeldt, Howard, and Pierre in a few seasons depending on my need to shake things up. Guys like Wuertz and Bulger are on such awesome contracts that I can't imagine me moving them. Too much value for those deals. Very comfortable keeping this core together for another 4 to 5 seasons, should I choose to. I'm going to go the constant re-tool route so I'll never have to "rebuild" aka lose again. Sorry NL East!
Wow. Scary stuff. Definitely was hoping youd have to blow it up soon. Itll be tough to keep up with you. Nice to have a challenge though.
3. Who is your current favorite player on your team? Why?
Obviously Miguel Cabrera. My favorite real life player of all time, and he's an absolute stud. Best player in the league hands down. Trout can suck a fat one, it's going to be a LONG time before he's on Miggy's level. Like the only thing shaky about Miggy was his defense, and now that the NL has the DH I don't even have to worry about that. Dude is hitting .400 (though it'll probably drop below that soon) and gets on base almost 50% of the time. He has elite hitting and power. He's my franchise player so he will always be this good. Oh and he's only 26. He's going to go down as the BBSBL GOAT, there's no doubt about that. I'm thinking he'll end his career with over 3000 hits, 500 HRs, 2000 RBIs. Are you guys ready for at least 10 more years of Miggy? I am! This will be the first of many MVPs for him. Going to be awesome watching his career here.
I do have to give a shout out to my boy CC Sabathia though. Guy is playing lights out. Going to win another Cy Young this season and he's going to win 300 games in his career. Really glad to have him back from his 2 year Florida hiatus.
The fact that you have CC Sabathia and he isnt even in consideration for this is nuts. Miggy is amazing. Such a good player. Cannot wait to see him put up crazy numbers for the next 12 years.
4. If you don't win the WS is it a failure? Obviously the only negative to being so dominant is that its a huge let down if you don't win.
Absolutely. I felt like I had the best team last season, but given how shitty my team was playing all year, it wouldn't have been a let down if we lost in the postseason. But this season definitely worries me. My team is so dominant in the regular season that it's starting to give me that feeling that we'll choke in the playoffs. The fact that we will probably clinch the division in mid August is ridiculous. If it wasn't for the fact that we have a legit shot at 120+ wins, I'd probably rest some guys and give guys like Herb Roache some time to develop in the Majors. I might still do that. Regular season doesn't mean a whole lot to me, so I'm definitely hoping for another WS win this year. Obviously, the OOTP playoffs are always shaky, but I think I'm doing my best to position my team for another deep run. I took last season's team and added Nomar and a better bullpen. Only team that I am worried about in the whole league is San Francisco. You put together a ridiculous pitching staff with a pretty good offense. I still think my team has too much firepower for you, but if your pitchers get hot in the playoffs, obviously no one can deal with that. Jackson put my team down this past sim, so I need to avoid performances like that in the postseason should we meet.
I hated last year. I knew your team was better than it showed all season but still losing in the playoffs after winning 117 is horrible. Ugly season in retrospect.
5. What team is your biggest obstacle towards winning a WS? Why?
Pretty much touched on this last question, but I'll expound on it more. Outside of things like injury or shitty play, biggest obstacle is definitely the Giants. Your pitching is so elite it's scary, and your offense is very formidable. Record-wise, you should only be behind my team by a few games. Not worried about any other NL team and only team in the AL that probably stands a chance vs me or you is Seattle, but I feel like our teams beat Seattle in a 7 game series 4 out of 5 times. Our teams really are just too good, so it'll probably just come down to whichever team is hottest going into the playoffs. As long as you don't lose to pirate steve or something.
Nice to hear Obviously I like that you and mst others think Im the only team with a legit shot at knocking you out. Kinda nice to not be the default #1 team. Maybe I can slide in for the upset.
6. How is simming? Do you enjoy it? Compare it to simming in FBB?
I actually enjoy it a lot. It's nice not having to sim every day like the FBB leagues. Sure, there is definitely more crap to do but I think the overall experience is more rewarding. I do miss some of FBB's simplicity, but OOTP really is on another level. Also, not having to do opening day Depth Charts is amazing. God those were so annoying. Draft is a pain here. Feel like you have to jump through so many hoops to get things how you want. But so much of the offseason stuff is better in OOTP. Not having to do FA bids, DCs, etc. is wonderful. I guess that comes with people all having the program, but still. Overall, simming has really sparked my interest again and gives me a great way to burn a few hours a day.
Awesome. Hopefully you guys figure out a long term schedule that fits both of your needs. You simming will also free up Erbes to do some other fun stuff that he didnt have time for before.
7. Has Erbes talked to you about how long he'd like you to sim? How long is your schedule flexible enough to sim?
No we haven't discussed it. He might have to fight me to get me to stop simming lol, I think things are going really smoothly. Not that erbes did a bad job, but I actually think having multiple people able to sim makes things a lot easier for everyone. I think my personal ideal way of running things would be me sim, steve draft, and erbes oversee/edit draft/spot sim/etc. I know there was some concern with having the file change hands so many times, but I really don't see it as an issue, especially with you not doing the drafts anymore. I'm so meticulous when it comes to backing things up, I think we'll always be covered in case something happens, but we haven't had a file issue in a long time. The amount of free time I have right now is crazy, and it's going to be like this for roughly 18 to 24 months. I'm not sure anyone else has that kind of time on their hands haha.
I cant imagine wanting to sim if someone else wanted to. Its so tedious. Better man than me.
8. Now you have the commish's view. What is one glaring problem with BBSBL? How can it be fixed?
Hmm, I personally think rewards and/or reversals are going to catch up with us in a bad way soon. I'm not sold on the double reversal thing, I think perhaps there could be more limitation to it. Maybe restrict it to guys under a certain age. Not sure. Rewards are great for activity, but ratings are definitely creeping. I was always pretty good about keeping ratings in check with FBB, so if it comes to having to tone things down, I can probably do that. I also think we need teams to step it up. With guys like play, broph, and erbes really out of the fold, the competitive balance here is skewed to put it nicely. There seems to be like four teams actually competing. I like the addition of Jordan in Philly, if he sticks around he could be a good addition (Though he ended up in an unfortunate division ). We really need the three I mentioned earlier to go back to competing, and we need guys like Game, jah, kobe, bosoxi, etc to step it up. I'm glad to see steve and darell finally doing something. Habes tried, just ran into some bad luck. We need to fill the Seattle GM spot though, can't have a team that good GMless.
Agree on the rewards. Love them but if the draft classes keep getting higher the ratings will be out of control. I get a lot of people hating me for this but I really belief lower overall draft ratings will allow for the league to tend toward better lower ratings.
9. Is BBSBL more active or less active than UOSL leagues you've run?
Hmm, I think prime UOSLR was more active, but BBSBL is more active overall. UOSLR had insane GM talent its prime years. You had all the BBS guys minus Skillz, you had an active tiger, an active less racist Krup, an active csdude, guys like TheSchmaranz were good during that time. Even prince was around actively. UOSL got the best out of guys like saga, trunks, shaunkol, etc. Activity was amazing for awhile there. Aar, jay, DBW, etc. Brings me back now. I miss it. Lol the oregon crowd! Ah, good times. I could never commit to being able to absolutely sim daily, and I couldn't take doing all the offseason stuff anymore. I'll probably never run an FBB league again, but I'm sure if I did, I could assemble the crew for one last hurrah. Maybe like a 10-15 season thing. Guaranteed beginning and ending. Like a TV mini-series.
Thatd be fun. The last hurrah thing. Ya this league is crazy active but its not as active as most of the BBS leagues. It is super active though. Best baseball league Ive ever been in.
10. If you could add any FBB GM you've had in your leagues over the years who would it be? Why?
That's a tough one. I think an interested DBW or Skillz would be amazing to add. That's the issue. Finding someone with enough interest to stick around and become one of the best teams here. Taking over a shitty team is tough. Especially in an OOTP league. In FBB you can take a bad team, get a few great picks and a clutch FA period, and you're ready to go. It's not like that in OOTP. Look at teams like Philadelphia, Minnesota, Detroit, etc. It's painful building back up. And then teams like St. Louis that get stuck in the middle behind a few great teams. It can be a real frustrating sell. And now even a great team like Seattle is going to probably have to take a step back due to terrible finances. There's so much that goes into building a winner here and staying there. It's hard to bring an FBB guy into that. I'm glad we got greeme. If we could just plug in a few Skillz or DBWs, man we'd be golden.
I agree on Deebs or Skillz. Im a big fan of Aarhed tho so Id probably pick him Unfortunately all these guys dislike baseball. Adding someone like this would be awesome though.
11. Please name one non-Marlin BBSBL player that you'd like to add to your team. Why?
Probably Stanton, but it sucks heatflash brought him up to early. I would've let him develop hits hits on his own in the minors at least another season. He's one of my favorite current Marlins players so I would've liked to add him to my team. Less open to the idea now that he's been IRI'd a bit already, but I'd obviously still pull the trigger. I'd love to have Miggy and Stanton doing it big in Miami. Plus it sucks that Stanton and Trout will never be on a division winner team. Maybe they'll win the wild card one day. Also, I'd love for any young brilliant loaded pitcher. Need to acquire one of them at some point. Perhaps in next year's draft.
Stanton is fun. SO hard to determine when to bring someone up. Lots of differing opinions. Im sure if you wanted you could get Stanton though. Pierre for Stanton?
12. How long do you think you can continue winning 110+? Do you have a goal in mind for future success? Or do you just play it year by year?
I feel like I could probably win 100-110+ for the next five seasons or longer should I choose to. I can keep this team together for awhile if I want, but I might shake things up in a few seasons. I think if I can win two out of the next three World Series' then I'll be pretty happy with this group I put together and I'd probably start re-tooling. Ideally I want to remain in constant competition for the near and distant future. I don't like losing or the rebuilding process. I think tearing things down all the way is a risky thing now. You basically have to package all those young assets you acquired in the first place and move them for proven talent again. Sure, if you're able to grab a guy like Trout then obviously that helps, but I look at a team like Chicago and I get worried in going that route. Play's done a great job amassing a ridiculous stockpile of youth and picks, but he's nowhere near competing unless he flips all of that stuff for talent again. It'd take awhile for all that young talent to become good enough on their own, and I know play is nowhere near patient enough to wait that long. I want to avoid that whole process entirely and I just slowly re-tool as I go. I think it's possible, but we'll see. I'm pretty confident in being able to maintain a winner for awhile. I think I'll be satisfied with 4 or 5 total World Series, then I'll start gearing up for another decade of domination.
LOL at this guy with 4 or 5 titles. WTF! Lets all collude to make sure this never happens! Trade me better players. Ill take this fool out!
I worked pretty hard to put this squad together. Best offense, second best pitching. This is where I envisioned my team all those seasons ago when I began putting the pieces together.
