With this article, I factor in overall value. A few absolute future studs right now. Here we go:
Top 10 Minor League Pitching Prospects
1. Matt Harvey- SD- Age 19- Brilliants across the board…best SP prospect in the game, and might be the most valuable arm in the league right now. Stud. Habes would probably like to franchise him, but Sizemore is franchised already…so, we’ll see if Sizemore goes on the block one more time. Anyway, I really can’t wait to see the numbers Harvey puts up in San Diego…he’s going to have a lot of sub 2 ERA seasons in the future. I think he’ll be up with the big club next season. Best part of Harvey, he’s not even ranked in the top 100…further proof of why that list is a joke. Anyway, this guy might be the best SP within 3 years.
2. Madison Bumgarner- PHI- Age 18- Similar to Harvey except he is good in Doubles, but has A duration. He’ll project to be the future Ace of the Phils, I think. I like him a little bit better than Clayton Kershaw. But man, that’s some kind duo at the top of the rotation. He will be a really impressive pitcher down the line. I think he might need another year of seasoning in the minors…really all depends on how his runs start to develop because a lot of his numbers are really close besides that. Phils are still a ways a way right now…need more bats, but having those 2 at the top of the rotation is going to be filthy. Future ace right here.
3. Duane Ford- SD- Age 19- Same age as Harvey, but really going to be a long process here. His hits are going to take a long time to develop. His G/G/B/B/B talent line is really awesome…has a C duration with a nice groundball rate…sure Habes would love to keep him in the fold, but I’m sure he could dangle this guy and get a more ready now piece if he wants to compete next year. Not sure what his plans are, but I do know he’d like to win soon. Anyway, I’m sure Habes is ecstatic with taking him in the 3rd round…sensational value. Probably at least going to take this guy another 2+ seasons of minor league ball…nothing wrong with that.
4. Sean Doolittle- ANA- Age 21- Here comes a Closer run…Doolittle possibly had the chance to become a starter, but as usual Greg dropped the ball. Brilliants across the board, and basically ready right now. However, no point for Greg to call him up until next year. Only thing that really isn’t ready for Doolittle is his HR rating, but he should get there soon enough. Absolute lock-down closer…however, not so sure he’ll be closing many games for one of the worst franchises in the league right now…just no talent there.
5. Craig Kimbrel- PHI- Age 20- Brilliants across the board except his doubles rating (good)…great groundball rate, and his velocity is at a 12 which tells me that his K-rate will probably be absolutely insane. He’s looking at at least another year of seasoning…but man; I love that trio of Kershaw/Bumgarner/Kimbrel…that’s a lot of future wins if the GM makes the right moves for this franchise.
6. Greg Holland- PITT- Age 22- The oldest of this studly bunch, but a very interesting case here. Before the year he was average in Walks, but a TIA and PD later, and he now sports a fantastic rating. Holland’s numbers are developing at a weird rate…he’s already major league ready against RHP, but not even close against LHP. For instance his walk rating, he is 7 against RHP, but a 2 against LHP…his K-rate is going to be fantastic…a minor negative is his groundball percentage, but I think he’ll be okay. Glad to finally have a future stud bullpen guy. Usually just piece together my pen year after year.
7. Tanner Roark- CHI(A)- Age 21- From here on out, you have to factor in a TIA to the overall player…most of the remaining 4 look very similar. I really like this guy…he needs his duration to be improved, but I think if given the time, he can be a really good SP in the future. The key is getting his hits and walks to a 7 or otherwise he could get his around too often. His ability to prevent extra bases is going to awesome. Just a matter of how much base runners he allows on base. Don’t know he’s on the right team to get the attention he needs to get, though.
8. Jordan Zimmerman- TB- Age 22- Jordan Zimmerman looks like he can be a reliable starter in the future. He sports a potential G/G/G/B/G talent line…Solid groundball rate, and his duration is also a B. I honestly don’t think this guy is Greeme’s long term plans, but you never know with him. I think he’ll be with another team in the future, but he should be an innings eater at the bottom of a very good rotation for some team. He will be ready for the following season.
9. Andrew Cashner- OAK- Age 21- I believe Cashner recently got a PD last season, I believe. Anyway, with Broph as his GM, he’ll get the proper attention to be turned into a really quality arm. It’ll take him some time to develop that HR rating, but once he gets that going, he’ll be fine. Solid groundball rate along with his C Duration. Not sure where he exactly fits with Broph’s plans, but if he’s apart of them, then he’ll be a nice SP for his squad in the future…will take him some time to develop.
10. Corey Kluber- CHI(N)- Age 22- Play has an intriguing guy right here. Excellent groundball rate along with his C Duration…he’ll be ready next season. This is the type of pitcher that tends to do well in Play’s park…He did use his TIA on him which hurts some of his value, but still, he makes the cut for me. I know he’ll get the proper attention from Play that should help make him into a solid 3 or 4.
Honorable Mentions: Bud Norris and Yovani Gallardo (FLA), Kyle Kendrick and Zach Greinke (MIL), Jamison Rowan (ATL), Steve Cishek (CIN), Gio Gonzalez (SD), Alex Torres (COL), and Ubaldo Jimenez (OAK), and Nicholas Rojas (CHI)
Bash away!
