It is really hard to figure out how much players will get paid because there are so few bidding wars in fa. Most of the players end up resigning so there contracts are not indicative of what the market can bear. Add that to the fact that big market teams have money to throw around and who knows what will happen.
Akinori Iwamura, Second Base, 27 yrs
bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p3336.html
Previous contract - none
Wow; brilliant hits and a stud defender. The type of player you would think should be able to steal but can’t. Going to be overpaid by a big market team. Yay. Realism.
He will get – 3 yrs, 11,000,000
Daisuke "Dice-K" Matsuzaka, Starting Pitcher, 24 yrs
bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p3337.html
Previous contract - none
He is another candidate to be overpaid by a big market team. He does have a possible stip hanging over his head. He also only has 2 pitches which some gms hate in a starter. He is a very well rounded pitcher with 7s all over but he doesn’t have any brilliant ratings.
He will get – 4 yrs, 10,000,000
Will Cunnane, Starting Pitcher, 31 yrs
bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p1443.html
previous contract: 20,000,000
He is a great pitcher but not worth the 20 mil that he got last year. I also don’t think he will get a long term contract. His era his gone up from 2.09 to 2.74 to 3.38 the past 2 years so that might be a red flag. He will probably get more money for less years.
He will get – 2 yrs, 15,000,000
Mike Caruso, Catcher, 28 yrs
bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p213.html
previous contract: 5,000,000
He is not a bad consolation prize if you can’t pay for Iwamura. Even though he is listed at catcher he is more of a second baseman. He is a good defensive second baseman as well as being a pretty solid baserunner.
He will get – 4 yrs, 7,500,000
Brian Lawrence, Starting Pitcher, 29 yrs
bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p2043.html
previous contract: 1,652,143
Meh. Lawrence won’t even listen to my offers. I wanted to through some cash at him but he won’t listen. Lawrence seems to be on the track opposite Cunnane, his era has gone down from 5.40 to 4.80 to 3.62. Fluke? Idk but if you want to find out you will have to pay.
He will get – 3 yrs, 7,500,000
Mike MacDougal, Closer, 28 yrs
bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p1822.html
Previous contract: 7,000,000
He was dominant last year with 36 saves and a miniscule 1.22 era. Obviously you have to pay for production but how much money are gms willing to pay for a closer with a duration of E?.
He will get – 2 yrs, 8,500,000
Chipper Jones, Shortstop, 33 yrs
bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p633.html
Prevous contract: 9,780,000
33 yrs old but not showing any signs of slowing down. Besides his walks and obp he still seems to be the same player. .281 ba with 29 hrs is welcome in any lineup.
He will get – 2 yrs, 8,500,000
Luis Castillo, Second Base, 30 yrs
bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p219.html
Previous contract: 7,000,000
A good year to be looking for a 2B in fa. He is very speedy and a good defensive second baseman with good range. His avg and obp have taken a dive the last couple of years so don’t overbid.
He will get – 3 yrs, 5,500,000
Mariano Rivera, Closer, 36 yrs
bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p1058.html
Previous contract: 8,000,000
Stud reliever on the downside of his career. Of course the downside of his career is still better than most guys prime so don’t expect to get him for cheap.
He will get – 1 yr, 7,000,000
Larry "Booger" Walker, Centerfield, 39 yrs
- bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p1305.html
Previous contract: 12,000,000
39 years young!! He makes chipper look like a rookie. He still is a stud all around player. He did have a scary 60 point drop in his batting average. Will he bounce back? At the worst he will be a speedy CF who has good range and will get close to 20 hrs and 50 stls.
He will get – 1 yr, 7,500,000
Takashi Saito, Starting Pitcher, 36 yrs
bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p1099.html
Previous contract: 4,400,000
Another aging player who can still pitch. He had a mediocre 4.49 era last year but that should go back down if he goes back to the nl.
He will get – 1 yr – 5,000,000
Rafael Soriano, Starting Pitcher, 26 yrs
bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p1175.html
Previous contract: 10,000,000
Lol, easily my least favorite player in the league. Now he wants 4 mil a year?? And he turned down 10. Meh. I still like him but it seems that average walks is the kiss of death for starters in the minds of most gms. I still wouldn’t mind getting him back cheap.
He will get – 4 yrs, 4,500,000
J.C. Romero, Reliever, 29 yrs
bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p1708.html
Do you pay for the 2003 stud? The 2005 dud? Or the 2001-2,2004 solid pitcher? I would pay him as a solid pitcher and hope for the best but I’m sure that somebody will look at 2003 and pay more.
He will get – 4 yrs, 4,500,000
Joel Peralta, Closer, 29 yrs
bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p981.html
Previous contract: 4,500,000
He might be better off closing with his lack of duration. He has solid stats though his era tends to fluctuate though most of his years are on the good side so he would definitely be a good addition to almost all pitching staffs.
He will get – 4 yrs, 4,500,000
Scot Shields, Reliever, 30 yrs
bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p2137.html
Previous contract: 8,000,000
Pretty ratings, meh performance. He has had an era under 4 only once in the past 5 years and it has been over 5 twice. Still, somebody will pay for the ratings.
He will get – 2 yrs, 4,000,000
Troy Percival, Reliever, 36 yrs
bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p982.html
Previous contract 7,000,000
Not the pitcher he was in 1997-2000 but he still has gas left in the tank. His stats have been mediocre the past 2 years in Atl but he can still be a useful reliever.
He will get – 1 yr, 3,500,000
Robb Nen, Reliever, 36 yrs
bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p902.html
Previous contract: 8,005,000
Still gets it done most years. Is the 4.06 era a sign that his age is catching up to him or just a fluke middle reliever era? Don’t overpay because you might not like the answer.
He will get – 1 yr, 3,500,000
Jason Grabowski, Catcher, 29 yrs
bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p2256.html
Previous contract: 1,800,000
He is a decent catcher both offensively and defensively. He could definitely start on some teams but all in all he is just a slightly better than average catcher.
He will get – 3 yrs, 2,500,000
Chris Singleton, Centerfield, 33 yrs
bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p2203.html
Previous contract: 4,500,000
Speedy, CF type with a cannon for an arm. He will hit for average but his very little power. He also can’t take a walk.
He will get – 1 yr, 2,500,000
Scott Spiezio, Third Base, 33 yrs
bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p1183.html
Previous contract: 4,500,000
Decent offensively but shouldn’t play anywhere besides DH.
He will get – 2 yrs, 2,000,000
Akinori Iwamura, Second Base, 27 yrs
