I think the franchise player tag is not utilized enough. There are currently only 9 franchise players. Interestingly enought each of the top 6 teams in the power ranking has a franchise player. In order to give a player the franchise tag he has to be 25 yrs or younger, on an original contract and in the bigs. When i say that a player should be franchised i mean that he should be franchised when he is ready to hit the bigs, not that he should necessarily be franchised now.
Detroit Tigers
Franchise player – none
Best player 25 and under - Charles D'Artiaga - bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p1160.html
Should they franchise him? Lol, no. D'artiaga can be a great defensive outfielder and should probably be able to back up all three of postions but I only see him getting the starting nod if his hits reach 8s.
Toronto Blue Jays
Franchise player – none
Best player 25 and under - Emery Woolum- bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p794.html
Should they franchise him? Hmmmmm. I really like speedy on base guys but I wouldn't franchise him. No power doesn't bother me as much as no doubles. And he is loyal which also works against franchising him.
Pittsburgh Pirates
Franchise player – Braden Shipley
Best player 25 and under - David "The Hawk" Vitiello - bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p1730.html
Should they franchise him? No but they have a stud pitcher franchised which is the way to go imo. All brills is nice to see. A duration is also. I think Singleton was also franchised at some point. Saying that his career has been a disappointment so far would be a major understatement.
Milwaukee Brewers
Franchise player – none
Best player 25 and under - Willie Starbuck - bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p1673.html
Should they franchise him? Yes. I like franchising players while rebuilding because it protects you from loyalty drops. He hasn't been irid yet and once he is he will be one of the best hitters in the game. He is also a lefty which only makes him more valuable as does the Great ability in the clutch.
Minnesota Twins
Franchise player – none
Best player 25 and under - Tony "Goldie" Timmer- bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p335.html
Should they franchise him? No. Styro really should teach him 1b or lf. At this point he is just a dh which limits his value. I'm not a big fan of franchising brill hrs/walks players although if they were speedy and stud defenders at a premium position I could see it being done.
NY Mets
Franchise player – none
Best player 25 and under - Ciro "The Dwarf" Chaparro- bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p3535.html
Should they franchise him? Ummm, no.
Montreal Expos
Franchise player – none
Best player 25 and under - Lucas Giolito- bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p1443.html
Should they franchise him? Easy yes. Not sure why kobe hasn't franchised him yet. Probably something to do with his being a cokehead.
NY Yankees
Franchise player – none
Best player 25 and under - Scott Claypool- bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p1254.html
Should they franchise him? Easy no. I like the power/speed/stud rf but he has already been tibd and tiad so I just don't see it. On the other hand Erbes will make enough draft studs once he starts tanking so I'm sure he will have a franchise player before long.
Philadelphia Phillies
Franchise player – none
Best player 25 and under - Israel Portillo- bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p1787.html
Should they franchise him? No. Even with catcher being the weakest position I don't see Portillo as a franchise guy. Side point – Cascio is probably a better player but if I had to franchise one of them I would franchise portill bc of his min loyalty vs Cascio's loyal.
Boston Red Sox
Franchise player – none
Best player 25 and under - Emil Delarosa- bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p1176.html
Should they franchise him? Yes. Break's team looks really good for the future. I really like Wine and Colmenero but the future stud is clearly Delarosa. I'm still not sure how Break convinced Darrell to pass on him in the draft. The only worry I have is that he is still at 1s hits/hrs and being injury prone he could end up having a bunch of pds quickly which could lead him being rushed to the majors and franchised. And then he could be the pitching equivalent of Singleton.
Tampa Bay Devil Rays
Franchise player – Jose Fernandez
Best player 25 and under - Norman Rolfes - bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p918.html
Should they franchise him? No. I don't even think he should start. I mean Brill hits looks nice but if you don't play a premium defensive position or have A stealing and C+ speed you should be a pinch hitter. In any case, Stool already has Jose as his franchise guy and he is definitely worth the label.
Atlanta Braves
Franchise player – Bryce Harper
Best player 25 and under - Daniel Pipkin
- bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p442.html
Should they franchise him? No. The Braves have the worst franchise player in the league and the worst best 25 and under guy. Good job hf. No wonder he disappeared.
Florida Marlins
Franchise player – none
Best player 25 and under - Carlos Correa- bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p1883.html
Should they franchise him? Hmmmmm. I could see thinking about it if he was a steal threat and didn't already use his hits iris. Not sure why he hasn't been tibd in range/% yet.
Baltimore Orioles
Franchise player – Oscar Taveras
Best player 25 and under - Hunter Harvey - bbs56.net/BBSBL3/BBSBL3/Site/p2154.html
Should they franchise him? Not even close. Would have to get a hrs pd and bump his duration up to B in order to even think about it.
