With this article, I factor in production, talent ratings, contract, and age for the true outcome of their value…I weigh talent ratings along with age more, and this could be a good guide to see who truly the best valuable NL OF on the market is. Here we go:
Top 15 NL OF
1. Mike Trout- OAK- Age 24- He is now entering year seven of his professional career which tells you how long he’s been here. Scary thing is, he’s only 24 years old. He has already amassed 1,000+ hits, 200+ doubles, 100+ home runs, and 350+ steals before turning 25 years old. Ridiculous. This guy has at least 10 years of high end production since he’s Broph’s franchise guy. He has it all as he’s brilliant across the board besides his strikeout talent being a good. He has the elite speed, and better yet…he plays a premium position at the high of levels with an outstanding arm, too. 2014 was the year that I thought Trout was announcing his greatness to the world…instead he regressed the following year. I could tell Broph was a little frustrated, but now…he looks poised to start making his run at greatness. His HR talent is developed to a 10 which was huge…and now, he should start hitting the ball out of the ball park. He has three IRIs left, and I’ll say Broph will use them to his walks…but he could use them to his doubles. Put them towards his doubles, and then use the last one to his walks. Anyway, I can’t wait to see how his career unravels, and what his numbers look like when his career is over.
2. Jorge Soler- CHI- Age 24- Well, this guy is definitely one of my favorite players currently in the league. He will have great power to go along with his outstanding speed. His defense is alright, but you certainly live with that when his bat is such a difference maker. Play acquired him via free agency, so that’s why he’s currently making the money he does, but this year he has announced to the league how good he is. He hasn’t been reversed yet, and can be IRId fully if and when Play decides to use them. He has the capabilities to go 40/40 year in and year out which makes a player at this age so valuable.
3. Byron Buxton- TEX- Age 22- Well, this kid flies under the radar because there hasn’t been a GM here in quite some time. I’m not sure we have one for this right now to be honest. Anyway, let’s talk about the player, and what he could be. He has the ability to hit for a high average, and create chaos with his amazing speed. He can ply defense at a high level at a premium position, too. He’s entering year two of his very young career, and he’s the franchise player for this team. He hasn’t been reversed yet, and even still has a TIA that can be used which should go to his doubles. All of his IRIs are left, too. This kid is going to be special.
4. James Demery- SEA- Age 20- He just got called up so he now gets slotted here. Remember when Dan thought he was going to be able to buy this guy? Hilarious. He’s a young piece of the puzzle for Seattle when they decide to rebuild. Bad news is, Jacob is the GM…and I’m thinking he screws up somehow. My personal opinion would’ve been to let the kid stay down one more season, but hey…not my call. He’s going to be a really nice hitter as long as he avoids PD. He does have three reversals left, but at age 20…he is certainly susceptible to them more so than an older player. A TIA to his doubles makes him an elite hitter. I don’t know when, but he has one IRI being used which is just awful. Waste of an IRI if you ever seen one. With all that said, he should be a really good player for Jacob in the future…he just isn’t ready right now.
5. Donald Countess- SD- Age 28- I thought I was close to a deal where I’d be acquiring this talented CF…instead Greeme took about ten years to decide, and then I moved on and completed a deal with Shale. This is a guy with the potential to steal a ton of bases while getting on base at an excellent clip. He has the rare brilliant hit/walk talent, and with his speed and defensive ability…he’s got a chance to be awesome. If I was Greeme, I’d IRI him to max out his prime years. He has all of them available, and you can even TIB his speed if you wanted to…but really no need to for that. He just has one reversal that was used so he’s in fine shape there. I’m a big fan of this player, and I’d appreciate if Greeme would trade him to me.
6. Kris Bryant- CHI- Age 24- He had a very rough rookie campaign, but looks to be off to a much better start to his sophomore season. He will be an extra base machine for the Cubs, and while he will strikeout a ton…he will get his fair share of walks, too. He was just too bad to play third base so the outfield is where he’ll play if he don’t DH for Play. He hasn’t been touched at all yet so he’s in excellent shape in his young career. A lot to like about this young cubby.
7. Jake Lamb- OAK- Age 25- I know Broph was telling me that Lamb should have been at second base, but he definitely is better suited in the outfield anyway. He is very well rounded, and is nicely developed for the most part. He is off to a sensational start to his rookie year, too. He has been reversed just once, and has been TIAd which kind of seperates him and Bryant a tad. I still liked Bryant better, but Lamb is right there. He got a few PDs to get him to this level, and now looks like the favorite for rookie of the year in the AL. He has the tools to turn into a very good player for Broph and the A’s.
8. Alex Anderson- CHI- Age 28- Well, he looks fantastic, and do I have him too low here? I think it’s always hard to rank where these guys belong, but I’m okay with him here. He’ll get on base, and then using his blazing speed. He plays the outfield extremely well, but does possess a below average arm. In the previous two seasons he has put up 35+ doubles, 10+ triples, 105+ runs, and 70+ steals. He’s the proto-typical leadoff hitter that any team would die to have. He hasn’t been reversed yet, nor has he been IRId. This is one of the more underrated players I believe.
9. Bradley Burnes- COL- Age 30- He has that brilliant HR/BB talent combo with the ability to hit for a solid average. He won’t hit many doubles, but makes up for that with his ability on the base paths. He’s an okay defender with a below average arm, too. What’s good is that he has all of his reversals left, and still has a few IRIs available. He’s hit 20+ home runs back to back seasons, and has had 50+ steals in all four of his seasons so far. He’s an all round threat, and still on his arbitration contract. Very solid player, and a good fit for Shale’s resurgent team.
10. Patrick Wisdom- ARI- Age 24- This is a young up and comer for Darell and his D’Backs. He has the power, and can play solid defense as well. He only has had a TIA used on him, so he can be fully camped if need be. He had a decent sophomore year, and his third year in the bigs should provide more bang since he is ready. At age 24, this is a player Darell will probably build the offense around once A-Gon declines.
11. Charlie Tilson- ANA- Age 23- This is a player that I love, and then hate as well. I love him because he’s only 23 years old and is brilliant in hits with the ability to hit a good bit of home runs. I hate him because he’s got fair talent in his doubles which is a big negative. Still, with not much left in terms of under 30 talents, I think this is the appropriate spot for him. He has only been TIAd, and reversed just once. With no GM, I’m not sure what improvements will be made, but hopefully we can find a GM for the Angels so they can start figuring some things out.
12. Yoenis Cespedes- STL- Age 30- This was always an intriguing player from the moment he entered the league. His international stipulation was dependent on his rookie season, and he exceeded the amount of home runs needed to bump his walks. Well, he’s only been TIAd, and used both of his IRIs to his home runs. He has hit 30+ home runs in three of his four seasons which shows how powerful he is. Plus, he plays a great a left field with a gun for an arm. I would IRI his hits right away since he seems to struggle to hit for average. Well, I’m talking to a wall here as BoSoxi is the GM, and is cheap.
13. Adam Jones- SD- Age 30- This is a very nice player, and one I wouldn’t mind having on my roster. I know Greeme is having money issues since he needs to spend on quite a few players, BUT it’d be nice if he could TIB Jones speed to make him a huge stealing threat. He’s fully IRId, and actually had two TIAs used on him…I’m assuming the frenzy was when that happened. He’s on a nice deal, too. He’s also coming off a nice season so we’ll see how he does again in San Diego.
14. James Gregory- CIN- Age 32- Gregory is similar to that of Alex Anderson, but his age is what separates his ranking. This is truly an underrated guy, and I didn’t realize he was this solid. He’s got everything you want in a leadoff hitter, and should be a nice piece for George for a few seasons. He only used one of his reversals so that leaves him with five left if need be. Finally, a Cincinnati Reds player on the list!!!
15. Julio Enos- COL- Age 31- Being that he’s at the age of 31, and that he is basically fully camped…this is where a very good, quality hitter is placed. He has hit over 30 home runs for Shale in the previous two seasons (four seasons in a row for him). He’s the Rockies cleanup hitter, and should continue to produce numbers for them in that good lineup. He only has two reversals left, but he should be okay I’d think. He’s due for a new contract as well.
Honorable Mentions: Carlos Gomez (CHI: Age 30), Jeff Francoeur (OAK: Age 32), Carl Angus (SD: Age 22), and Alex Gordon (SD: Age 32)
Top 5 NL OF Prospects
1. Austin Wilson- OAK- Age 24- Well, Broph made out on that Bogaerts deals even though he’s the most valuable piece in the league. Wilson is a good looking slugger with solid defense, too. He’s basically ready for the show, but it’s looking like next year will be his first year up. He did take a bad PD hit that Broph needed to reverse, but that was his first hit so he’ll be okay. The A’s should be loaded next year.
2. Josh Bell- STL- Age 23- Bell is pretty similar to Wilson, and I think there’s a case for either guy at the top. Both are going to be nice pieces for their respective teams. He has only been reversed once, and he’s ready now. I think BoSoxi should call him right now. No reason he should be playing another game for Triple A.
3. John Malik- SD- Age 20- Only his TIA has been used, and so he’s in a really good spot. He’s got some developing to do, and he’s way behind compared to the other two ahead of him, but that’s to be expected at age 20. He’ll be fine, and it’s not like Greeme is in need of him at this moment. He’s also a nice trade chip if Greeme needs to make something happen to improve his roster.
4. Travis Demeritte- LAD- Age 21- He’s a year or older, but more developed. Similar players, but Demeritte has been reversed twice compared to Malik not being reversed at all. All in all, another player for Dale that find a list, and that’s important.
5. Thomas Swords- TEX- Age 20- This is one of those rare all goods across the board type guys. He’s an intriguing piece for Texas, and he hasn’t been touched yet. He’s got a lot of value for whoever the hell the GM is of that team. I like this kid a lot.
