With this article, I factor in production, talent ratings, contract, and age for the true outcome of their value…I weigh talent ratings along with age more, and this could be a good guide to see who truly the best valuable 3B on the market is. Here we go:
Top 10 3B
1. Javier Baez- OAK- Age 23- Yes, even though he’s down in the minors…he’s not considered a prospect anymore since he was up last year. I’ve wanted this guy for awhile now off of Styro, and now he finds himself with Broph. A well, rounded hitter with the ability to swipe 60+ bags each year? Yes, please. He has all of his reversals and IRIs remaining which makes him even more intriguing. I like his overall game a little bit better than the next guy. Absolute stud.
2. Timothy Harvey- NYM- Age 24- He’s actually got a G/B/B/B/G look which is awesome. He just took his second bad PD hit to his BBs which means that’s now capped out. He still has four reversals remaining. The negatives are that he has no speed and really has no business on the field. He’s looking like a DH unless Dan tries to teach him 1B of course. I still think he’s a fabulous hitter, but I’d rather have Baez. I’m sure there will be some debate here.
3. Mike Olt- LAD- Age 27- Dale’s players are finding his way onto these lists! I remember when I offered Dale…Seager/Shipley (pre-pd) for this guy. Thank god Dale didn’t accept it right away. We then discussed to table those talks, and then the flip happened. I got very fortunate. Anyway, let’s talk about the player. He’s one of the very that possesses a HR rating of 12 He’s developed his hits and doubles to a 7, too. We are still waiting for his true breakout season, and I think it’ll come this year.
4. Kyle Seager- PITT- Age 27- Well, here’s Seager. These two have some similarities, and some differences. Both have the G/G/B/G/A look. Seager is obviously better on the base paths, but defensively I’ll take Olt. Olt is also got more power, and has the capabilities of launching 40 a year. When I traded Hanley, Seager is the only left standing from the bunch I acquired. The other guys have been shipped off, and most of them are not doing anything. He has all of his reversals, and has only one IRI left. He is the real deal, and will probably be served better off in the OF which will come eventually.
5. Stetson Allie- COL- Age 25- Well, I had this guy until I traded him for Kason Gabbard. He’s a good looking player, and with his walks developed into the 8’s…I’ll place him here. He should mash in Colorado (who wouldn’t?), and he only has a couple of reversals left, though. Shale, a couple means 2 by the way. I think I understand why Shale didn’t reverse the PD hit to his walks now. I’m excited to see how he does this year in his sophomore year. Hopefully, it only gets better from his tough rookie year.
6. Brandon Belt- PHI- Age 27- For some reason I thought I had Belt at one time…he has turned into a real power hitter. Last season he broke out with 36 2Bs, 25 HRs, and 93 RBIs. He’s in line for a new contract so it’s going to be interesting to see what he commands. He has a few reversals left, too. Crazy thing is, you could TIB his speed/stealing ability, and he could turn into a speed demon. This is a quality player here.
7. Clifton Turner- FLA- Age 26- Here’s another guy I had at one time! Turner has turned himself into a real solid player. He’s efficient on the base paths, and has averaged 30 HRs over the past two seasons. He plays solid defense, too. He only has a couple of reversals left, but.he should be just fine with those. This is a very underrated player in this league.
8. Dayan Viciedo- MON- Age 27- He looks good, but then you notice he has a 4 in hits against LHP which causes serious concern. Once he gets that up, he’ll be a very nice power hitter…of course, he won’t draw walks, but he also won’t strikeout either so at least you’ll know he’ll put the ball in play which ups his chances of going yard. He’s untouched besides a TIA being used on him. Having said all of this, he’s probably going to the OF when Kobe decides to start competing.
9. Chris Taylor- LAD- Age 25- Another Dale player! I like this player as the only thing that’s been used is his TIA. He’s in his 4th year, and he looks like with time, he can be a very nice player for Dale. He’s loyal which should help lock him up on a really nice contract when the time comes. He does lack speed which does hurt his value a tad since he’s a guy that gets on base and lacks power.
10. Alex Sevilla- MIN- Age 26- Well, another Twins finds his way onto these rankings. I wasn’t totally enamored with what was left, but decided to go Sevilla over guys like Bruce, Gamel, and Alvarez…he can’t even produce in Coors and can’t play defense so sorry. Sevilla still has four reversals left, but he can’t use it on a PD hit to his walks anymore. He should be a nice role player for the Twins down the line.
Honorable Mentions: Jay Bruce (SD: Age 29), Pedro Alvarez (COL: Age 29), Mat Gamel (TAM: Age 30), Ike Davis (BAL: Age 29), Victor Wilson (SEA: 31), and Chris Johnson (OAK: Age 31)
Top 3 MLB 3B Prospects
1. Oscar Neal- PHI- Age 22- Temp has some young talent, and he’s one of them. He hasn’t been touched yet so he could look like G/G/B/G/A which is fantastic. He is just about ready, too.
2. Florian Robledo- NYM- Age 24- Man, how the hell did Erbes let that deal go through? Brutal decision. Anyway, to make matters worse, this kid hasn’t been touched yet which makes him even more appealing. When it’s all said and done, he could look like this: B/F/G/G/B…unreal.
3. Joseph Savala- PITT- Age 21- He was the main piece coming back in the Collmenter deal, and I’m hopeful he can be a nice future piece for our team. He’s been TIAd, and reversed twice thus far. Right now, I could be inclined to make him our 3B if I TIB his fielding percentage…if not, he’ll play OF for us.
Bash away, folks!
