Note – I only listed hitters with 200+ at bats.
15. Chris Sabo 3B
Age: 25
Stats: G AB H 2B 3B HR RBI R BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
78 283 71 8 0 2 28 19 7 59 0 0 .251 .267 .300 .567
Sabo has had a pretty mediocre first year. He hasn’t been outstanding or even good at anything. Low walks, mediocre BA, only 2 hrs and no steals.

14. Jose Reyes SS
Age: 22
Stats: G AB H 2B 3B HR RBI R BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
64 236 48 12 3 2 22 17 11 57 17 2 .203 .240 .305 .545
Reyes has a ton of potential and nice looking ratings. Not sure why he isn’t performing better. Even if he starts playing up to his ratings it is too late for him in the roty race. Great on the base paths but very poor overall so far.

13. Gregor Blanco CF
Age: 21
Stats: G AB H 2B 3B HR RBI R BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
79 261 70 16 4 1 30 22 20 50 15 14 .268 .323 .372 .694
Gregor should stop trying to steal; 15 out of 29 is pretty ugly. His BA is decent as is his OBP but it is unlikely that he has a future as a starter in this league on a good team. Absolutely no power.

12. Michael Cuddyer 3B
Age: 26
Stats: G AB H 2B 3B HR RBI R BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
74 285 74 15 3 4 35 37 18 40 5 2 .260 .302 .375 .677
Cuddyer is an interesting player. He can play all the infield positions as well as lf and rf. He has really nice ratings and looks to be a solid all around player. Hasn’t been great this year but he will get better.

11. Angel Pagan CF
Age: 23
Stats: G AB H 2B 3B HR RBI R BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
80 300 81 20 2 1 24 40 14 47 21 7 .270 .304 .360 .664
Nice looking player. He will be a solid CF for years to come. Already with B/B stl/spd ratings and a great looking defensive outfielder. Solid avg so far and has 21 steals. His stl % should go up with a tib or or 2. No power to speak of and unlikely to develop any. Very slim chance to get
ROTY. He would have to get hot and a bunch of players would have to cool off.

10. Patrick Schrum SP

Stats: G GS W L SV ERA IP HA R ER BB K CG SHO

Only pitcher on this list. Only rookie starter with an era under 5.00. He might get some votes just because his performance was much better than the other rookies but he has not been overwhelming at all. His record is more of a function of his team than his performance.

9. Tony Pena SS
Age: 24
Stats: G AB H 2B 3B HR RBI R BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
63 223 69 7 3 5 30 31 5 40 11 2 .309 .329 .435 .764
Great range at SS is something that I love. He is decent on the bases and has been successful on 11/13 stl attempts. His BA would be 20 points higher than the next rookie if he had enough abs. Has shown a little pop in his bat with 5 home runs. Won’t be a star in this league but will be a solid player.

8. Brandon Phillips 2B
Age: 24
Stats: G AB H 2B 3B HR RBI R BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
76 273 68 17 0 7 32 34 15 49 1 3 .249 .290 .388 .678
Meh. Phillips hasn’t been great so far but he will be a star. He has the much desired “brilliant” hr talent rating. He is 4th among rookies in hrs, 8th in runs and 7th in rbis. If his batting avg was higher then he would move up this list so a hot streak could give him an outside shot at ROTY.

7. BJ Garbe
Age: 24
Stats: G AB H 2B 3B HR RBI R BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
75 265 73 13 0 5 37 41 17 42 1 1 .275 .323 .381 .704
Garbe has shown flashes of the player that he will eventually become. Solid all over, maybe he won’t be a star but he will be a very good player when he grows into his ratings.

6. David Kelton 3B
Age: 25
Stats: G AB H 2B 3B HR RBI R BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
80 310 79 14 0 7 51 32 7 27 0 0 .255 .277 .368 .645
Kelton has been one of the more major league ready rookies. He is tied for fourth in the rookie hr race and running away with the rookie rbi race. His 51 rbis are 11 more than 2nd place. On the other hand his avg is average, he refuses to talk a walk and he is a poor defender and basestealer.
Chance to be voted ROTY – 4%
5. Jorge Cantu 2B
Age: 23
Stats: G AB H 2B 3B HR RBI R BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
64 254 72 21 0 5 25 30 6 46 2 2 .283 .300 .425 .725
Cantu is a beast to be. He is 2nd in the rookie race for doubles, 2nd in avg and tied for 6th in hrs. A horrendous defender who will probably end up at 1b or dh. He is pretty far behind the top 4 at this point but a hot streak could definitely get him back in the roty race.

4. Bruce Benningfield 3B
Age: 25
Stats: G AB H 2B 3B HR RBI R BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
79 302 86 14 3 8 29 40 18 51 14 3 .285 .328 .430 .759
Bruce is leading the rookies in BA and is third in hrs. He is also 5th in sbs, with an 82% success rate. He really has to learn how to take a walk and is a mediocre to poor defender. Still that random pd bump to his walks has his ratings looking great. Tbh he probably should have been top 3. Benningfield, kubel and poarch are top three in obp, slg, rc, tavg, iso, and ops. Of course, I’m expecting Shale to give me a 3 if Wright is top 3 so that is where I will put him.
Chance to be voted ROTY – 10%.
3. David Wright SS
Age: 22
Stats: G AB H 2B 3B HR RBI R BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
77 326 90 33 0 4 40 47 14 73 0 1 .276 .304 .414 .718
Wright hasn’t been the player that Shale thought that he would be but he has been very good. Wright is currently leading the rookies in total bases and doubles. His power stroke has yet to develop which keeps him from being a frontrunner in the roty race. He is a mediocre defender and isn’t going to be a major basestealer though he could get tibd to B stl.
Chance to be voted ROTY – 10%
2. Jason Kubel LF
Age: 23
Stats: G AB H 2B 3B HR RBI R BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
80 268 71 13 0 13 34 44 38 72 0 0 .265 .355 .459 .814
The funny thing about the 2 frontrunners is that only one of them has high value. Kubel has a ton of value, he is only 23 and has brilliant talent ratings in hrs, wlks and strikeouts. Poarch is 30 years old and probably won’t get much better unless he gets iris. Kubel has 1 more hr than poarch, 1 less run, 4 less rbis and hits 10 pts worse. Poarch is ahead in tbs but kubel is ahead in obp, slg, rc, tavg, iso, and ops. Really could go either way.
Chance to be voted ROTY – 29%
1. Mark Poarch 1B
Age: 30
Stats: G AB H 2B 3B HR RBI R BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
79 291 80 12 0 12 38 45 29 68 2 0 .275 .341 .440 .780
As I said it could really go either way but I have it as Poarch by a hair.
