Astros send
MR Hampton 5M on-board cash
to the Mets for
MR Jose A Nunez
Thanks for listening to my trade idea and hopefully the 5M will come into good use for your minor league system. Moving Hampton frees up a lot of space and I will break even now, giving me an opportunity to upgrade my staff or OF.

Why would it be a joke? Hampton's salary doesn't affect James at all. He gets a free TIA or 5 IRI's for helping a brother out.

to even consider that contract I would have to get a solid prospect back

if the salary would actually affect your bottom line, yes, I agree. But with teams with less than 20M in overall salary (lol), that logic goes out the wayside. But 5M on-board is useful.

so 30mil in game cash(cap relief) for 5mil board cash
6 to 1 ratio
About how I value my board to game cash exchange.
I guess not bad. I would have went for a spect though.

I think I had a 6-1 ratio with the Angels...gave up 2M on-board for 12M in-game cash.
Seems to be normalizing around that ratio, odd.

5M is easy to get so that goes out the wayside as well for you, maybe not to James?

true. idk, using those 15M a season for an FA to trade off for spects seems like better use of that money though.

true. idk, using those 15M a season for an FA to trade off for spects seems like better use of that money though. given that there was nothing in FA now and James was in clear rebuild, I think he was OK with taking on 15M. My logic to him (and Nanz) was that the salary would not affect them AT ALL. There's still wasted profit even with Hampton. And who knows, maybe Hampton gets a PD and is an attractive SP next trade deadline? Could nab him a prospect or 2. I offered the same to CLE but he's competing now, so I understand not wanting to suck up 15M in space. I offered the same to Nanz who is in the same position as James (near or at max cash on hand, 10's of M's in cap space...it's wasted profit unless you're truly planning on capturing it for the stadium fund, which everyone will max out in 20 seasons).

yeah i assumed id see some questioning. but i did wrestle with it for a while. aside from being able to take on his salary, he would be gone after next season, and hes 27 so who knows if he can get a boost. but more importantly, it gives me a chance to keep some of my younger pitchers down for a little bit longer rather than forcing some up, which is what i was about to do... mainly dicky gonzalez. so it made sense for me, its a weird risk, i get it, but hey i dont think next offseason was gonna be the one where i was going to make a big splash anyway. hopefully it works out. i'll let you know lol.
also, i agree.
