Saturday night.
CLEVELAND, OH- 5/24/1997- It appears that it is not in fact, all smiles and sunshine in Cleveland.
Earlier this year, Cleveland let go it's General Manager, Daniel Rowe. When asked for comment, Owner Richard Jacobs was quoted as saying "We just didn't like the effort we were seeing from him, he showed up late or not at all- and when he did show up, he was hungover if we were lucky. Usually he was still drunk..."
The Indians hired an unknown General Manager for the Interim, but almost exactly a week later Daniel Rowe was seen walking into the ballpark.
When asked for comment, Manny Ramirez said "Yea man, I saw him walking in and figured maybe he forgot that he was fired, I mean, he wasn't always so coherent when I talked to him. Though I did find it somewhat suspicious he was in a suit, as compared to his usual jean short-shorts, Wife-beater that says 'Welcome to the GUN SHOW' and Aviator sunglasses."
It was announced hours after Rowe was spotted walking into the park, that he was rehired as General Manger.
At the Press Conference Jacobs said "We really like Dan, he has some great Ideas for the team. We just needed him to show some commitment to the team, and we feel he has done that. I think with him behind the helm, we are destined to do great things"
Finally, the man himself had some words for everyone.
"I have made some mistakes in the past, and taken advantage of what was a great opportunity. I cost this team, and myself, many things along the way. I really needed this week to find myself, spiritually. This past week I went on a wilderness survival hike. Just me, and anything I could bring on my back. I learned a lot on the trek, and I am ready to give this role the respect it deserves. I am excited about our future, I think we have a great thing here, and can't wait to see where we end up"
After a weird game of Musical GM's it looks like Cleveland has finally settled down. It was badly needed too, as the Indians currently sit 25-22, 2nd from last in their division. It is not too late for Rowe and the Indians to turn it around though. The season is young, but only time will tell if the Indians have finally figured it out. One thing is for sure- Cleveland fans will be happy to see some normalcy for a change.
