Well it seems that Spencer and I had the same Idea, but our questions were different enough I felt like it was good to get a second take. Here's the latest take from the most controversial clique in the league.
1. Before we move on to BBSBL questions, let's get some backstory. Who are you in Longballer and have you had any success there?
Shale: I was originally the Yankees there. I got that team to a Wild Card berth, but other than that, the Orioles gave me fits. I made quite a few mistakes with that team though and most of them involved shitty extensions I gave out to players that didn't end up deserving them. I then traded away too many picks for aging talent that didn't end up doing much. However, once I realized the Mets were open and that the Yankees were fucked, the move across town was easy. Now, I got a Mets team that's about to get the #1 pick there and has a bright future with one of the best systems around. Darell and I are gonna have a lot of fun soon duking it out in the NL East.
Darell: My team over there is the Miami Marlins and I have had quite a bit of success there. When the Marlins were a dynasty we had one of the more dominant pitching staffs in the league, including one of the best pitchers in the history of longballer in Kevin Slowey. I managed to win a world series and had numerous WS appearances but I choked.
DRowe: I am the Boston GM, I have been in it for a couple years, and had moderate success. When I first started I made some moves and my team made the playoffs the next few years, now my team is starting to rebuild and we will see how it goes from there.
Darell definitely has the best team set up out of these three in longballer, but I'm the only one competing at the moment. I've won a division and had two wildcards and heading for my fourth division title/wildcard in 4 years straight. Thanks to all the longballer guys for giving me my OOTP legs!
2. We all know better, but let's clear the air. I've seemed to gain a reputation as the "leader" of the longballer clique. Can we dispel this hilarious title once and for all?
Shale: That notion is true. Break isn't above me in any way as a "leader" if anything. Sure, he did come up with the majority of the trades I made with him, but I've done as much for this league as him, if not more. He is responsible for D Rowe being here, but Stutter was solely recruited by me. Darell was a mutual recruit. In all honesty though, Break is no leader among the people he and I have known. Break is the one that constantly gets picked on and I'm usually quiet and laughing at some of the ridiculous shit I hear.
Darell: No I sort of agree with you there, you take a lot of heat from everyone in BBSBL on things like being fake drunk to things like raping drowe in trades but I feel if youre anything, youre vocal and passionate about OOTP. I feel like you and SNB/Shale are definitely more vocal than the rest of us.
DRowe: I don't think we have a leader, or really a clique. I mainly talk with Break and Shale, and not anyone else really. I didn't even realize anyone else but Break and Shale from longballer were in BBSBL until I saw stutter's hilarious video and he mentioned it.
Calling me the leader is laughable considering Stutter and I don't get along and Darell knows way better than I do how OOTP works. I guess I could be considered only in the vocal sense as a leader because I speak my mind the most (except maybe Shale).
3. Obvious filler question time: Which player from each of our teams would you most want to have for yourself?
Shale: Helton would be too easy for me to say, so I would go with Pedro. A pitcher like him is what the Rockies will need to be a legitimate World Series contender in the future.
Darell: I would love to have William Bui from the Rockies/Break's team, dude is a monster and with that insane PD he just got, he could be a legitimate mvp candidate every year. Although im pretty comfortable with how my outfield is looking.
DRowe: Fucking Pedro... are you kidding?
I'd kill for Helton. That said if I don't find a good 1B in the next few years Darell knows Adrian Gonzalez is going to be paid a hefty ransom to end up in Beantown. Laughing at Darell picking my 2nd best Longballer player though. He is a beast but Captain Kirk is my man.
4. I'm currently the only team to win a playoff game out of all of us. When do you plan on winning your first?
Shale: I nearly got there myself, but the Rockies will be back by 2003 hopefully. Once the Giants get too old, the Rockies will step up and run the NL West for a long time after that. By then, I'll have at least 1 postseason win under my belt. However, I do think D Rowe will get his first postseason win before me.
Darell: I cant really say because even if I draft well, OOTP can fuck you with PDs and next thing you know Im rebuilding again.
DRowe: Well, since I will finish just out of the wildcard race this year, I plan on winning several next season I think I will have a good shot to as well.
DRowe is my bet just because of timing. He's got a sick team that will only get even better next year.
5. Darell will be joining us on the field shortly. Do you think he(you) should try to win immediately or keep rebuilding for a bit?
Shale: I think he should rebuild for a while because once the D-Backs are here, I'm gonna be owning the NL West. The Padres should also be ready to compete by then, so the D-Backs will be a 3rd wheel team at best in the mid 2000s.
Darell: I think Darell should try to win immeadiately because that NL west is going to be up for grabs
DRowe: All depends on his drafting, and his expansion draft. Personally, I would probably try to rebuild for another year or so and then start a run. All up to him, and what he thinks his options are.
I can't praise Darell in his knowledge of this game enough. He'll be a constant threat to everyone. You'll all figure it out very quickly once he fields a team and you talk trade with him.
6. DRowe just recently made a blockbuster deal to acquire Todd Helton from Toronto. Do you think he won the trade? Do you think it was the smart move for him to make as a team heading into competitive years?
Shale: I think the Helton trade was great generally speaking for D Rowe. His team is getting ready to run the AL Central and with Pujols' value decreasing, now was the time to make such a move. I really like the Indians' balance of veteran and young talent.
Darell: It was a smart move for him, he called up some of his guys and his window is growing little by little. Helton is only 27 and hes one of the most dangerous hitters in the game, if he surrounds him with a competent lineup with his above average pitching staff, he could make some noise in that division.
DRowe: I think I won the trade, if Pujols hadn't had the PD I wouldn't have made it, but after he PD I definitely would take that deal 10/10 times, I gave up some pitching and catching spects too, but honestly, I have pitching and catching spects out my ass, so it doesn't really hurt me to give them up.
Helton is a monster and Pujols PD hit opened the window for him to make this deal. Helton is a future HOF and will lead him to some nice playoff runs in the future.
7. We all know Stutterbomb in one way or another, and he's recently joined Longballer as the Dodgers. What's your opinion on his recent Sosa trade? Do you think he has any clue how to run a team? Should he give me Josh Beckett before he ruins him?
Shale: Break, among others will obviously have a different perspective on this, but I personally believe Stutter is starting to understand how to compete and make good trades. He made some mistakes, but he's been trying hard to fix them and shed payroll. The Sosa trade was really good for him because Sosa was someone he really needed to move for young talent and picks before he gets too old. Stutter already missed out on Miguel Cabrera, so at least he has Beckett to partially satisfy him until Hanley is on the draft board. Maybe he will get Josh Johnson in 2002 as well. I will continue to give him good advice on what to do and I'm sure he will seek other advice away. But let me repeat myself again about how Stutter goes about his business: He is a careless pothead that will simply go with the flow. He obviously wants to be legit, but if it doesn't work out, he isn't gonna lose his mind and beat the shit outta some stranger he sees on the street. He doesn't take anything (except his real life baseball shit) seriously at all, so the rest of you just have to take the good with the bad that you may see from him.
Darell: Im not really sure on what I think about this, because I havent really paid attention to the moves hes made but at the same time if youre stuck in a division with Chicago and Houston, who are both powerhouses I think he should rebuild and wait for their window to close.
DRowe: No comment...
The only thing Stutter and I agree on is what strains of weed are good. Other than that I can't stand him for the most part. He cares so little that it annoys me a lot of the time. That said he's probably going to figure things out considering he's spent the least time with OOTP by a lot.
8. If you could bring in one Longballer GM who isn't already here, who would it be and why?
Shale: I honestly would love to see Puddles join this league and bring his veteran expertise here. I think he could handle some of the egos here, although he may not be particularly comfortable around all the trolling. Puddles taught me OOTP probably more than anyone else I've known, so if he was here, BBSBL would be more complete for me. I think SyC would also be a good fit here, unless he and Erbes don't get along, which I actually think would be very likely to happen. SyC is easygoing, but can also get very stubborn and won't give in if he really doesn't want to.
Darell: Probably Sy or the Kc Royals GM over there because he knows a good amount of OOTP and I know he would enjoy the heat Break takes in BBSBL.
DRowe: As I said in the other roundtable, the Orioles GM He is the most active and fields a great team every year.
Puddles is the preverbial "father figure" among the rest of us, because he is the calmest and nicest guy you'll ever meet and has a lot of OOTP experience. He's usually the one people run to for advice and to settle arguments, even though he hates doing it!
9. Shale obviously gets attached to his players. What do you think the odds are he(you) never get(s) David Wright or Matt Harvey due to his overwhelming homerboner?
Shale: First off, that is one of the corniest words I have ever seen. Wright doesn't need to be discussed any more because I have already taken care of business with the 2001 draft. As for Harvey, we will see where the Rockies are by 2010 and go from there.
Darell: Hes going to get David Wright because Im assuming he gets a top 5 pick but hell he could get both for all I care. Even if theyre both shitty players hes still going to chase them, because he gets too attached to his favorite players
DRowe: I'm sure if he wants them bad enough he will get them. I am however, willing to bet he overpays to get them. Getting attached to hometown players can hurt you, especially when you BROADCAST IT ALL OVER THE FUCKING BOARDS SO EVERYONE KNOWS YOU WILL BEND OVER A TABLE TO GET THEM. Just fucking saying...
Shale sure doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut. That said he's definitely set himself up nice to get Wright with his recent dealings. Also sorry Shale I lied it's too hilarious to change.
10. Who wins the World Series first out of the four of us? Who wins it last? Who is the most likely to never win it?
Shale: If Break doesn't win a title before myself, D Rowe, Stutter or Darell, that would honestly be pathetic. Thus, I hope Break wins it first so he doesn't embarrass himself even further. No offense to Stutter, but I think he will be the the last of the 5 of us to win a ring. The Red Sox have come too close already multiple times. The Indians' success is just beginning. I will find a way to win at least 1 ring in the mid 2000s and I got my stadium to give the Rockies the best lineup in the league again when I'm ready to compete. As for Darell, he is gonna make competing in the NL West that much more fun and he has won titles in Long Baller, so I expect him to find success sooner than later. The fact of the matter though is that the Reds not only have the least obvious plan for the future, but are also stuck in the NL Central. With the Cubs very likely going to dominate the NL Central for at least the next 5-6 years, I can't see the Reds or any other team competing with the Cubbies for a long time.
Darell: This is Break's year to win it all, and if he doesnt then its a huge failure. Im going to say Shale is the last one to win one and Ill go as far to say he might never win one. Until Shale actually brings in talent into his team and quits chasing names especially ones that are either past their prime or overrated than hes going to be stuck in mediocrity.
DRowe: I say I do. I think Break has a shot at doing it, but his window is closing. As far as last, I bet Shale, being in the NL will make it tough, and he is rebuilding right now, and will probably have to always deal with florida, montreal, or SF in one combination or another. That also means I think he would be most likely to not win it, not necessarily through any fault of his own.
If I don't win in the next 3 years the torch passes to DRowe to take a World Series down.
11. Who is your favorite non-Longballer poster and why?
Shale: Tough to really choose one GM out of all of them, but I guess I'd have to with Ashes because I agree with him on quite a few things and is one of the more fair GM's here. He makes his opinions known, but unlike guys like Erbes, Play and Styro, he knows how to talk in a way that will make him seem easygoing and not difficult to get along with. For the record, James would probably have gotten my vote if only he would post more. Now this guy has a legit sense of humor.
Darell: I love the posts Erbes makes when he responds to the claims that Break makes. Its like you know he isnt rigging the sims but he trolls break by admitting he does it and Break doesnt realize hes trollling him.
DRowe: Steve1213- he seems to be the only other person on the boards who is a big hockey fan... I fucking love hockey. I can't wait for FHM to be fully released and we can start BBSHL
I agree with DRowe on Steve1213 being a cool motherfucker. Other than that Ashes is my favorite because he's the most level-headed of the guys I've talked to a lot.
12. Pick one future player you MUST have.
Shale: Do I really need to answer this? Ok I'll give another future player I must have...Joey Votto. He would make up for trading away Helton and I could see Votto possibly having a better overall career and should be able to hit more home runs than Helton too, along with being a consistent Gold Glove winner.
Darell: I really want Starliin Castro but if I REALLY had my pick, I would love to have Justin Verlander.
DRowe: Strasburg- (Just take my ratings from the other roundtable) I think he would be a great pitcher, and plus, the Nationals are my 2nd favorite team in the MLB
I already mentioned Dustin Pedroia, but Strasburg is a guy I've had in every OOTP5 league I've been in, so I gotta agree with DRowe here!
